Community service is an important area of focus for Local 514. We support many causes that our members are involved in and benefit from including the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Local 514 has been a sponsor of the MS Bike Tour for several years and we have had a lot of members participate in the ride. We would like to see participation by TWU members increase even more this year.
The MS Bike Tour is a challenging two day bicycle ride from Tulsa to Oklahoma City following scenic Route 66. The tour is the last weekend of September but training rides begin July 10th. These FREE training rides take place on Saturday and Sunday mornings all summer and start with 5 miles and get longer each weekend. You can do any or all of the training but you will want to be prepared when it is time for the big “Mother Road” tour.
Registration is open online for the 2010 MS Bike Tour. There is a $50 registration fee that covers five meals during the weekend of the ride and rest stops every 10 miles along the route stocked with snacks and cold drinks. Register online at http://bikeoke.nationalmssociety.org and be sure to select “Join a Team” then choose the American Airlines Team of Champions. By joining our team you will get matching funds help from our team toward reaching the minimum fundraising requirement of $200. Thanks to Local 514 and some other generous sponsors we are able to make it easier for our riders to reach their fundraising goals.
This is a fun way to get in shape and help raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. If you have questions contact team captain Duane Friesen at Duane.Friesen@aa.com.
