AA Bankruptcy Update
Dear Brothers and Sisters:

As we all know, the AMR bankruptcy has exacerbated an already difficult time for our members. TWU recognizes the anxiety and fear inflicted by their actions on you and your families. Be assured, we are taking all actions possible to protect your job, your wages and benefits.

On Wednesday Feb. 1, AMR announced their restructuring plan, a plan that deals a heavy blow to nearly 9,000 of our members. Their reorganization plan will be evaluated and challenged by our negotiating teams.

AMRs proposed business plan would terminate all existing pension plans, eliminate nearly a third of its maintenance employees at the Tulsa base, and close the Alliance maintenance base in Fort Worth, Texas. Only the Texas Aero Engine Services (TAESL) joint venture with Rolls Royce LTD could remain.

AMR also proposed outsourcing 27 stations that would affect over 4,000 fleet service workers and a variety of other job classifications across the AA system.

In total, the AMR plan will slash at least 13,000 jobs – over 15 percent of its workforce. This is a devastating hit to families already suffering through economic hard times. It is even more troubling for those who gave up so much in 2003 to keep this company from filing bankruptcy.

To counter this unbelievable proposal, the TWUs plan is in full operation. We need you to join us. We all realize that this is the most critical time in our member’s lives and their careers.

Negotiations Update:

The information you received yesterday, 2-1-2012, was distributed to the media and published to AA web sites, yet it was not shared with the Negotiations Committee. Now that the negotiations committee has seen these proposals we know that they are asking for much more than they can justify. The numbers given out are subject to change if necessary because of future negotiations. The real numbers remain to be seen.

The Negotiations Committee is now charged with asking for all the information that AA is using to justify their position. Make no mistake, They are fighting for our jobs and rights. The cuts are deep and outright wrong. The Negotiating Team will be working to limit the desires of the company. The Negotiating Team has the facts on our side. They are ready to use these facts in court with the Creditor’s Committee.

It has come to my attention that some emails we have sent, about the American Airlines terms, have made it look like we here at local 514 agree with or are wanting to promote AA and the decisions that they have made to achieve such proposals. That could not be further from the truth. We are putting any and all information out as it becomes available. You need to ask your questions, you need to be educated on this process, and we will do our best to get you there. We have received numerous questions on the TWU514.org website relating to the AA bankruptcy. Although we are diligently working toward finding these answers they have been piling up. Please take time and visit the AA.TWU.org website and read the Q&A section to see if your question has been answered. If you have not received a reply from us, chances are we do not have your answer. Many question you have submitted will be answered in the days to come through the courts and negotiations process. All others we will do our best to get answered.

Twenty lucky members will win a pair of tickets to one of the following games: Friday, February 17, 2012 and Sunday, February 19, 2012. (We have ten pairs of tickets to each game)

In order to win, simply go by the Union Hall Office, 11945 East Pine St., Tulsa, and place your name and a contact phone number in the drawing box. Only one entry per person per game. However, If you bring a non-perishable item for the community food bank, you will receive an additional chance to win the tickets. The drawing will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, 9:00am at the Union Hall Office.

AMERICAN AIRLINES 1113(c) PROPOSAL TO TWU: Feb. 2, 2012

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The following 1113 term sheets were provided to the TWU Negotiating Committees. Although narrow, we will do our best to mitigate the proposals. We are planning to review the Company’s Business plan with our attorneys and the financial analysts hired by President Little. The savings that the Company has proposed is in the form of headcount reduction and work rule changes.

In separate documents, the Company has confirmed their intention to close Alliance Maintenance base over the next 12 to 18 months. They have not made a decision on the TAESL Shop.

Other changes the Company wants to make are proposed to apply to all work groups, such as Health Care Insurance, Sick Leave, and Overtime and Field Trip rules. We will keep you up to date with the most complete and informative information as possible.
