Quill Scholarship

Apply for the Quill Scholarship 2021

The union has been honoring our founder with these scholarships since 1969. Quill Scholarship awards have benefited hundreds of TWU families. Children of our members in transit, railroad and air transportation, utilities, public employment, space installations, and allied industries are among those who began their college educations with the help of  the TWU’s signature scholarship.

AA Recall

With the recent approval of the Payroll Support Program (PSP2), we have been working to make sure Association represented employees who were impacted in the October reductions are recalled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreements. After several discussions with American Airlines management, your Association Leadership has been informed that, beginning Tuesday, January 19, 2021, notices for Article (6) preferential recall will be sent via FedEx to those members who were reduced, displaced, bumped or furloughed.

Grievances

Union Stewards, you need to be sure any of your grievances that have been denied at the second step are getting turned into the Grievance Committee. You can scan the documents in and email them to:  OG@twumail.org

If you need help scanning these documents, get with the staff assistant in your area.

Grievance Review Board

Our current CBA Article 33 Grievance procedure:

Step 3

If no satisfactory adjustment is reached in Step 2, it may be appealed in writing or electronically through the Union within twenty (20) days after receipt of the Step 2 answer to the Grievance Review Board (GRB). If appealed, the grievance will be reviewed by the GRB or upon request of either party, presented to the GRB. The GRB will consist of four (4) members: Managing Director of Labor Relations or his designee, one (1) Management designee, and two (2) Union designees. The GRB will meet bi-monthly or sooner if mutually agreed between the parties. The GRB will render a decision in writing to the Union within fourteen (14) days of the meeting date. The meeting will take place at the corporate offices of the Company,  or another location if mutually agreed upon, to discuss those grievances, which have not been resolved at the lower steps.

If no satisfactory resolution is reached at the GRB, the grievance and the decision may be appealed to the System Board of Adjustment/Arbitration as set forth in this Agreement, provided, however, said appeal must be submitted within thirty (30) days from receipt of the decision of the GRB or the grievance will be considered to have been withdrawn by the Union.

President Dale Danker spent Wednesday and Thursday on a video conference call with the Grievance Review Board going over the grievances that have been denied by the company and are now on the 3rd step. This is the first time we have held this meeting. As we go forward we will be holding these meetings to help resolve these open issues.

Benefits

Members that have not set up a Direct Deposit account for their TWU Long Term Disability may be getting an email from support@piedmontpays.com with the following message:

Dear John Doe ,

Your scheduled deposit for your TWU LOCAL 514 insurance payment did not arrive from your employer as expected. Without this deposit your premium cannot be paid and your coverage may lapse.

If your payment situation is due to the COVID-19 coronavirus environment and an interruption in your payroll cycle, you may contact us at Piedmont to switch to a bank draft or credit card payment method to make sure you retain these coverages.

Otherwise, this often happens when you are out on leave, change jobs, or had reduced hours during the pay cycle to allow the employer to send the premiums.

Please contact us at Piedmont so that we may assist you with this. You may reach Piedmont toll-free at 866-254-5245.

You will need to remedy this.. Please call them if you want to continue your policy.

Below are some other possibilities:

  • If a member has completed a Direct Deposit on or after January 8th, 2021, and members ePay’s statement shows a deduction going to a “Banc Corp” with a routing number of 0311XXX169 this is the LTD deduction.
  • If no deductions are shown and that member has completed a Direct Deposit, it is possible it went through and you may want to wait till after the next ePay’s statement on January 29th, 2021 to verify deduction.
  • If there is still no deduction then you will need to come to the grievance office or call an officer to assist you
  • If you are on a Leave of Absence and are not receiving any pay then you need to call 8662545245 and let them know .
  • If you received a text message, and you are a retiree then you can text back “STOP I’ M RETIRED”
  • If you received a text message, and you elected to take Metlife through the company you need to text “STOP”.
