To help, American offers its Member Assistance Program (MAP) to you and everyone in your household as you face life’s challenges and changes. You can find services and support for your emotional health and well-being, financial and legal concerns, daily life assistance, caregiving, drug and alcohol misuse, and more.

Our MAP services, provided by Aetna, a subsidiary of CVS Health, are a vital piece of your health and well-being benefits at American. Most important, they are easy to access. Simply call 833-721-2322 anytime or visit my.aa.com/map for website and password access.

With unlimited phone support across the globe in your preferred language, you can reach dedicated MAP staff 24/7, year-round. And if you just want more information without in-person support, the website offers articles, tools, videos, self-assessments and information to help you stay healthy; deal with stress, trauma and recovery; learn about mental health and emotional well-being; establish work-life balance; and find local crisis and disaster support.

Emotional Support

Immediate support is available 24/7 by calling the MAP. The Mind Companion Self-care tool is also available to help manage your mental health. This go-at-your-own-pace program offers confidential assistance, information and other features to help with overall mental well-being.

Counseling Sessions

You and your household are eligible for six professional counseling sessions per issue a year. Representatives will help you find one that is conveniently located and accepting new patients.

  • Sessions can be in-person, online or over the phone.
  • Want a different approach to counseling? Send unlimited text, video or audio messages to a dedicated therapist using Talkspace, an online therapy platform. Your therapist will reply to you each day. (One week of Talkspace therapy counts as one counseling session.)

One free consultation with a plan attorney per legal topic per year for issues such as:

  • General law (excluding employment law).
  • Mediation services.
  • Special needs, including emergency matters.

One free consultation per financial issue per year, such as budgeting, credit and debt, college funding, mortgages and refinancing, tax questions and preparation, and credit counseling. Subsequent consultations are available for a fee.
