A Letter from Denise Lynn to Retirees – July 3,2012

Dear Retiree:

As we’ve moved forward with restructuring, we’ve made meaningful progress in addressing our challenges and beginning to position the new American Airlines for a stronger future. One of the remaining areas we must address is company-paid medical benefits and life insurance for retirees.

In the next few days, we will propose to the Retiree Committee appointed by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court changes to company-paid medical benefits and life insurance for retirees and surviving spouses of American Airlines and Trans World Airlines employees. Talks with the Committee, the members of which are listed on the reverse of this letter, will follow as a part of an ongoing process.

No changes to your coverage are being implemented at this time, and more information will be provided before any changes are implemented.

For more information on American’s restructuring process, please consider visiting the Restructuring Resource Center on Jetnet. (Must have a valid Jetnet log-on ID.)

In this decision, as with the many other challenges we’ve faced in restructuring, our first priority is in doing what is necessary to strengthen this company for the long term and for the benefit of tens of thousands of current and retired employees who are part of the American Airlines community.

Sincerely,

Denise Lynn
Senior Vice President, People
