Take action now.

Call Congress and tell them to speak out against phones on planes.

In January, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) proposed to allow passengers to use cell phones on airplanes.   Allowing passengers to use phones to make calls during flights would create an annoyance that risks disagreements and possibly physical violence. Voice calls would impede the ability of flight attendants and pilots to properly communicate routine and emergency safety instructions.

TWU flight attendants need your help to continue the ban on cellular conversations in-flight. Please call your U.S. Representative today and ask them to sign on to the Dear Colleague letter sponsored by Congressmen McKinley (R-WV) and Lipinski (D-IL).

The letter will be sent to the federal agencies with jurisdiction — FCC, Department of Transportation (DOT), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Department of Justice (DOJ).  It urges these agencies to continue the ban on in-flight voice communications and to work together to consider the safety and security concerns of expanded wireless communication before they are allowed on commercial flights.

DIAL (202) 224-3121 AND ASK THE CAPITOL SWITCHBOARD OPERATOR TO CONNECT YOU WITH YOUR REPRESENTATIVE.

Your call will be answered by a member of the Representative’s staff who will write down your request. They may ask for the name of your hometown, your zip code or your mailing address to verify you are a constituent.

SCRIPT

When you call simply say:
“My name is and I’m a constituent. I am calling in opposition to new rules that would permit cellular phone calls on planes. Has the Representative signed the letter being circulated by Congressmen McKinley and Lipinski which calls on the Federal Communications Commission, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice to work together to ensure new any new rules don’t jeopardize aviation and security?”

If the answer is YES:
“Thank you for your help. I also please consider co-sponsoring the Keep Knives out of our Skies Act H.R. 4368 – a bi-partisan bill introduced by Congressmen Markey and Grimm.”

If the answer is NO:
“Please let the Representative know that I would like them to sign onto the McKinley-Lipinski Dear Colleague Letter.”
