August 15th was a significant date in relation to the bankruptcy for American Airlines as the Bankruptcy Court was scheduled to confirm their Plan of Reorganization. That confirmation would have paved the road towards an exit from bankruptcy in the next several weeks. Due to the anticipation of the confirmation, it was critically important for the TWU to maintain an aggressive schedule in order to make sure the Equity Distribution would have been ready to take place when the airline exited bankruptcy. That schedule included sending and receiving important information to each eligible Member. However, the lawsuit submitted by the Department of Justice aimed at blocking the merger between American Airlines and US Airways has caused the Bankruptcy Court to delay their decision on the confirmation of the Plan of Reorganization, which in turn has delayed the eventual exit from bankruptcy.
That has given the TWU and its Members the ability to extend some of the tight deadlines put in place.
Anyone who was a TWU represented employee on payroll, approved leave or furlough on November 29, 2011 or July 26, 2013 who does not receive a notice regarding their eligibility to participate in the equity distribution and payroll information by August 22, 2013 should write to the TWU Equity Distribution Committee at the following address:

Note: The prior deadline was set for August 15th, but that has been extended to August 22nd.
