RE: M&R Negotiations (Mediation Conference: November 9-11,2009)

Dear Brothers & Sisters:

I recently made a station visit and, while talking to our members, realized there was some misinformation being disseminated surrounding the latest round of M&R Negotiations. To set the record straight, we felt it appropriate to send out a notice to update all of the affected members.

In the aforementioned session, Mediator Jack Kane addressed both union and management negotiating teams. He requested the Union to restructure the committee to a smaller, more manageable size. He then asked the company to involve the appropriate management that can assist in reaching an agreement. The Mediator was well within his authority to make such a request of the parties.

The M&R Committee discussed how to comply with the Mediator’s request and, after some discussions within the committee, a proper motion was made, seconded, and read into the record to conduct a secret ballot vote to establish a 7 member sub-committee (2 Title I base, 3 Title I line and 2 Title II representatives) to continue with the mediation process. This motion passed by the majority.

The new subcommittee group will keep the full committee apprised of all details of the future sessions. No tentative agreements can be reached without the entire committee being fully briefed on each proposal and then conducting a proper vote.

The next scheduled M&R Mediation session is January 11-15,2010. All the latest updates are on the TWU website at twu.org.

We thank you for your patience and support during these difficult times and for all of your efforts as we continue serving something greater in the interest of public safety.

Fraternally,

Donald M. Videtich
