Obituary of Steven McCoy

Steven Craig McCoy was born in Los Angeles, California on October 13, 1948.  He moved with his family to the Fargo-Moorhead, Minnesota area when he was six years old.

Steven graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran High School in Fargo North Dakota in 1968.  He then attended Concordia College in Moorhead Minnesota, graduating in 1970.  Steven received his early pilot training through the ROTC program at NDSU in Fargo.

In 1972, Steven married Patricia Miller and they settled in Alexandria Minnesota. He earned his pilot’s license in Alexandria.   Steven and Pat moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma so that Steven could attend Spartan School of Aeronautics.

After achieving his A & P Mechanics license, Steven worked for Flight Safety and McDonald Douglas, and finally joined American Airlines, where he worked until he retired after 30 years.

Steven was active in Cub Scouts and in Boy Scouts for several years, and helped lead a trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.  He especially enjoyed the campfires and the story telling.  (Never leave home without a jack knife.)

Steven loved being a dad.  He taught his children to ride bikes, mow lawns, and to drive cars.  He supported their activities and encouraged their educations.  And he kept a close eye on those boy (and girl) friends.  He would be waiting on the door step if someone was late!

Being a Grandpa was even more fun.  He loved his nine grandchildren and enjoyed teaching them new tricks and skills.  He didn’t mind being silly at all.

Steven is survived by his wife Patricia, his four children and their spouses: Becky and Travis Braswell,  Sharon and Kevin Davis, Marti and Scott Minney, Michael and April McCoy. His grandchildren are Spencer and Maddie Braswell, Shiloh, Gabriel, and Simone Davis, Tatum and Meredith Minney, Liam and Piper McCoy.  Steven also is survived by one sister, Eileen Bakken and husband Ron, and two brothers Douglas McCoy and wife Naomi, and brother Greg McCoy. Steven is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
