Michiel Noel Bynum

January 16, 1944 — January 21, 2024

Inola

Michiel Noel Bynum, wonderful husband, father, Papa, & servant of Christ, passed into glory January 21, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 80 years old.

Mike was born on January 16, 1944, in Wagoner, Oklahoma. He was the only son of Helen (Grigg) and Noel Bynum. Mike grew up in Inola, raised by Helen with the help of strong male figures such as Mr. Crocker, Jay, Jim, and Robert Grigg. Mike knew Sandra all throughout their youth. He said he was interested for a while, but Sandra was always going with someone else. Being a man of honor, he waited patiently. After they started their courtship, Mike joined the Navy. They married on December 29, 1962. After Sandra graduated high school, she joined Mike in Norfolk, Virginia where he was stationed. They returned to Inola in 1965. A year later, Mike started digging the foundation to their home, by hand, where they lived the remainder of their marriage. In the same year, they began to build their family starting with Lance, then two years later Rhett, and completing their family with Trent. Mike was an example of how to be a great provider for his family. He worked hard supporting his family by working at Rockwell, McDonnell Douglas, owning and running a gas station in Inola, and finally retiring from American Airlines after 24 plus years.

Mike dedicated his time and effort to his family and church. From volunteering to coach to designing and creating sets for Vacation Bible School. He loved sharing his knowledge and love of sports with everyone. He loved our Lord, his family/friends, Inola basketball, and everyone he met. He knew no stranger and was an instant friend to all. Mike’s selfless love touched many. Even in his weakest state, still making a way for his love, to ensure she had everything she needed. He was always ready and available to assist anyone in need. Mike had a steel trap mind. He could tell you stories about Inola history and more in intimate detail.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents Helen and Noel Bynum.

Mike is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sandra of the home; his three sons Lance and wife Carla of Inola; Rhett and wife Bonita of Mannford; and Trent of Inola. His grandchildren Austin, Mitchell (Courtney Beckham), Kathryn, Matthew, Logan, Milly, Yukon, Chelsi and Ryan Moss, Rylee, and Allie Bynum; his three great-grandchildren Jax Beckham, Anniston and Alivia Moss; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and close friends.
