2023 profit sharing for Fleet Service, Maintenance & Related, MTS and MCT team members represented by TWU-IAM Association

What you need to know

Since the ratification of your joint collective bargaining agreement in 2020, your profit-sharing pool has been increased to 10% of American’s adjusted pretax income up to $2.5 billion and 20% of any pretax income in excess of $2.5 billion.

This year, we estimate the profit-sharing payout for your workgroup to be approximately 2.5% of individual eligible earnings. Payout percentages will be finalized in late February 2024.

Most types of pay are considered eligible earnings, but there are special cases that aren’t included. The list below breaks down the most common types of pay.

Eligible earnings:

  • Base pay
  • Overtime
  • Premium pay
  • Change of shift or shift swaps
  • Shift differentials
  • Vacation pay
  • Sick time
  • Incentive payments that are calculated based on hours worked, such as holiday incentive payments
  • License premiums

Ineligible earnings:

  • Commissions and incentive payments that are unrelated to hours worked, such as Sales incentives and other bonuses
  • Previous award payouts
  • Expense reimbursements

What you need to do

While no action is required, here are a few steps you may want to take as we get closer to the March 6 payout date:

Calculate an estimate of your award

Multiply your eligible earnings from the program year, which ran from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2023, by 0.025. The below example is based on total eligible earnings of $50,000.

Review your special election deferral to your 401(k)

Team members have the option to defer part of or all their profit-sharing award to their 401(k). Any special election deferral percentage on file with Fidelity as of 4 p.m. ET on Feb. 23 will be applied to your payout. You can review your deferral by logging in to your account at netbenefits.com/aa or calling the American Airlines Service Center at Fidelity at 800-354-3412. For more details, refer to our profit-sharing FAQs.

Check your pay statement

On March 6, pay statements should be visible in Pay Portal for U.S.-based team members and in Dayforce for Canada-based team members.
