Local 514’s Digest for the week of Oct 7, 2022

President:

All,

I attended an IEC (International Executive Council) meeting in California this week. During this meeting it was announced that current Air Division Director Gary Peterson would transition to a new role as Chief of Staff for International President John Samuelsen. Andre Sutton, current International Rep. was named as Peterson’s replacement. I’ve been asked, what does this mean going forward? At this time it’s too early to say. I’m not sure what, if anything, will change in the Air Division. I do know this. We cannot allow the next negotiations with American Airlines to take place like the end of the last negotiations where your elected reps where not allowed to sit across from AA reps and participate in the process.

M&R ARTICLE 15- SHIFT SWAPS

  1. An employee may authorize another qualified employee within the same bid area and classification to work his scheduled work day/shift in accordance with the following 2 provisions.

  2. The request must be in writing to the authorizing employee’s immediate supervisor, using the appropriate form and signed by both employees involved or submitted electronically, where offered by the Company.

  3. The request must be submitted not less than twenty-four (24) hours prior to the scheduled start time of the shift to be worked for full day swaps and forty-eight (48) hours prior to the shift start time for half day swaps, however, local management may approve shift swap requests with less notice. Such approval shall not be unreasonably withheld. Twelve (12) months after DOR, the Company shall meet with the Union to discuss reducing these notice requirements.

Until we get definitive clarification on the requirements and what is reasonable, I suggest everyone have their Supervisors and Managers Cell Phone numbers so if you are denied within 24 hours you can contact them with your request for approval or denial.
