Obituary for Eric Vaughn Binder

Our beloved Eric V. Binder, of Coweta, OK, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2024, at home, surrounded by his family.

Eric was born on January 27, 1966, in Quonset Point, Rhode Island. He was the son of the late LCDR Raymond Alois Binder and Naomi Ryan Binder.

Eric graduated from South Dade Sr. High School in Homestead, FL, in 1984. He became a journeyman electrician while working at Harden Electric during high school and then worked as an electrician for American Airlines for over 35 years.

Growing up in Homestead, FL, Eric was an avid sportsman. His passions included hunting, diving, spearfishing at Carysfort Reef, playing basketball with his buddies, and golfing. Living in Florida during his young adult years allowed him to enjoy boating, fishing, water skiing, lobstering, pool volleyball, and parties at the sandbar. He was always surrounded by the best of friends and family.

He married the love of his life, Chandra Webster Binder, on September 23, 1988, in Homestead, FL. In March 1997, they welcomed their son, Clayton Eric Binder. Later, Eric transferred to the American Airlines Facilities Maintenance Base in Tulsa, which brought his family to Oklahoma. He always admired the wide-open spaces and untouched land, where he and his family enjoyed hunting on their farm near Sallisaw. Many memories were made there with family and friends. Watching Clayton grow up and love the outdoors as much as he did was always a dream of Eric’s.

Eric and Chandra traveled extensively during their 36-year marriage. Cruising, snow skiing, and trips to Las Vegas were among their favorites, and a trip to Japan was the experience of a lifetime.

Many hunting memories were made with Clayton at their farm in Tennessee and in Oklahoma. Eric’s dream of sharing a New Mexico elk hunt was also realized. Eric and Clayton made numerous trips to the Florida Keys for fishing and lobstering, where Clayton grew to love the same adventures.

Eric is survived by his loving wife, Chandra, and his devoted son, Clayton; his siblings Debra Lindsay and husband Don, Sue Nix and husband Jim, Scott Binder and wife Debbie, Karen Grant and husband Barry, and Joan Diffee and husband Mike; sister-in-law Janeann Ostrowski and husband David; brothers-in-law John Webster and wife Dawn, Phillip D. Webster Jr. and wife Shannon; father- and mother-in-law Phillip D. Webster Sr. and Anna; and by many nieces, nephews, and their children.

In addition to his parents, Eric was preceded in death by his sister, Theresa Ann Binder; nephew, Michael Chad Diffee; and father- and mother-in-law John W. and Nellie R. Kirby.

A service to honor Eric will be held on Saturday, September 14th, at 2:00 pm in the Rivercrest Chapel of Bixby-South Tulsa Funeral Service and Crematory. The service will be officiated by Gene Moore, with a eulogy by his brother, Scott Binder. Readings will be by his sister, Karen Grant, and memories will be shared by Michelle Levine.

Pallbearers are brothers-in-law Mike Diffee, Barry Grant, Jim Nix, Dave Ostrowski, Phillip D. Webster Jr., and John Webster. Honorary pallbearers are Eric Alvarado, Stephen Swanson, and all of Eric’s nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, September 13th, between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm, also in the Rivercrest Chapel.

Interment will be at a later date at Crowder Cemetery, Crowder, OK.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Eric’s honor to the Wounded Warrior Project.
