Local 514’s Digest for the week of October 11, 2024

President:

Please see the Association document to review your respective class on the Economic Extension you will be voting on starting October 25, 2024. (Here)

Again, please make sure you can access your AA email and that your address on file with American Airlines is accurate.

I enjoyed getting to speak with many members at the town halls we held at the base last week. One common theme that was repeated to me was that floor supervisors go out and tell employees what to work on. This is a clear violation of the contract. Only a Crew Chief with a crew of 4 to 16 shall give his crew their daily assignments. If you’re on a crew with a Crew Chief assigned to you and a supervisor tries to move you or redirect you to another job assignment, don’t be disrespectful to him. Let him get his speech out, and then get a Union rep involved. We need to put a stop to supervisors violating the agreement. It’s their contract as well, and they need to be exposed if they are unwilling to follow it.

Let’s stick together and educate them.

As always, I can be reached at 918-636-6089.

Chairman of Facilities Maintenance:

As you probably know, Sam Neal has retired and left his senior manager position vacant. I have met several times with the people directly responsible for filling that vacancy and have explained in detail the importance of selecting the correct candidate and the possible turmoil caused by an incorrect candidate.

The current status of our metrics system (TMA) dictates the future of our organization and currently it is not being managed correctly, the new candidate should be responsible for returning it to accurately depict the manpower needed to adequately maintain a facility of this magnitude and all of the regulations it requires.

I was assured the successful candidate would be chosen as soon as possible and that our concerns would be considered.

  • Budgeted headcount 316
  • Current headcount 316
  • Headcount on LOA 10

  • Time Clock issues.   There was a time clock in HGR 5/6 that was not working causing 55 different individuals to get a UTO.  The company has corrected this and should have issued Off Cycle Checks this week to those individuals.  Double check your pay checks and Workbrain to make sure it is correct.
  • Complacency with Safety
    1. 2 members were injured from a 737 Landing Gear Stand pin coming out of its slot.   Please take the time and look over every piece of equipment and stands you are working with to make sure it is in proper working order.  Any issues immediately notify your CC and tag the piece of equipment with an out of service Red Tag.
    2. If you’re interested in joining the Safety team for Hgr 5/6, reach out to myself or Brian Drenthe.
