Local 514’s Digest for the week of July 18, 2025

Vice President:

TWU Local 514

Management should not be assigning people to work. They may direct a crew chief on what needs to be done. If a supervisor or manager is assigning you work please notify a Union representative.

Confidentiality:

The state of keeping or being kept secret or private.

We deal with many issues. While most of them are contractual there are personal issues that come up.

There has been chatter on the floor about the Union not disclosing someone’s personal issues. We will NOT do that. We take our oath of confidence very seriously.

Please put yourself in someone else’s shoes and consider how you would like to be treated.

When there are issues that are not confidential we will share those. The incident that occurred on base this week was a personal one. The police were called but there was no threat to anyone. After the two incidents of people getting on base without credentials if you cannot be identified by the people in the area they may call the police. If you have any questions please feel free to call me at 918-282-7494.

Marla Johnson

  • If you’re interested in pursuing shift improvement, reach out to your area manager directly. The union is no longer permitted to conduct this process.

Chairman of Facilities Maintenance:

Today it’s Friday and yes I may be showing a little too much cleavage but, I am wearing red in support of our current and past veterans, thank you for your service.

Hey… shout out to our FMG millwrights in the North TEO, they disassembled a huge grinder that is one of a kind and more than 50 years old with a broken gear box and with no schematics they are currently servicing it, this is no small achievement that shows our commitment and loyalty to this company, Thank you

We still have a big task at hand, we have to show our company the value of having a full time facilities group on site 24 hours a day 7 days a week this may sound like a no brainer to you and I, but to the accountants that make the decisions all they see are numbers and this is where we as a group need to focus, ask your crew chiefs to make you a work order for every thing you do that is not already documented.

Among other things your union has been and is currently fighting to get pms put into TMA and prioritized correctly, this is how we have added an additional 10 heads to our budgeted headcount for the first time in more than 15 years.

We will continue to work on language in our CBA that supports us as a group and forward our concerns to the negotiation team for the near future negotiations.

GSE is finally getting additional headcount to help them in their overwhelming work demands, we have 2 qualified candidates starting soon.

To those of you Questioning my ethics or my morals,  rest assured I will not compromise them for anyone or anything.

I make No “Deals” for ANY reason, if you ever have a question, ask me I will tell you the truth.

  • Budgeted headcount 316
  • Current headcount 316
  • Headcount on LOA 9
  • Actual headcount 307

As always feel free to contact me at anytime.

I attended the 2025 Labor Assistance Professionals Conference this past week. Some of the unions present included the UAW , Teamsters, CWA, Sheetmetal Workers, & Teachers. Also present were several company HR personnel. Some of the topics presented were “Brain Under Siege,” “THC,” and “Street Smart.”

I know I answered several phone calls during the week and plan to follow up with everyone next week.

Tracy Hardin:

BENEFITS:

We had the opportunity to attend the 2025 LAP ( Labor Assistance Professional)  Conference this past week. LAP is an organization that was founded by labor unions to help union members. Sometimes people that are not involved or not affected don’t understand the different ways lives are touched. It goes beyond drug and alcohol abuse. We learn to assist and guide with trama, psychological, medical, family matters, and even financial issues. No, we are not professionals with degrees, but we should be that trusted ear and voice of reason when there is nowhere else to turn.

We will always maintain your privacy, trust and respect.

Daron Morgan:

  • Monday I went over Shift Swaps at all of the Shop Stewards Meetings
  • Continue working grievances
  • Tuesday and Wednesday we had some discussions over some of the pre-jcba grievances
  • I’ve dealt with some FT bypass issues this week

Monday Jul 31, 2025, will be the next scheduled regular membership meeting.  At this meeting, the swearing in of the newly elected officers will take place.

I know there have been multiple things posted on social media.  I would like to personally invite everyone down to the hall and check it out.  Lets talk about the issues you’re having in your area, and lets work on fixing them.  Within 2 years, we will be going into negotiations, and we need to be tightening up.  Let’s work together and get stronger.

The surveys have been sent out for the 2025 TWU Family Fun Day.  Your feedback is very important for the success of the future events we have coming up.

We have a follow up meeting set up with the Tulsa Oilers on Monday, July 21st

The Next Tulsa Oilers Football Game will be Saturday July 19th.  This is a must win for them. Please go out and support our hometown team!.  We have vouchers in the grievance office and at the Hall

The Tulsa Drillers are playing at home this weekend.  They will be suiting up as the Noodlers, and they have special promotions each night. Check out their website for more information.  We have vouchers available at the Union Hall for them.

The COMPANY LEADERSHIP is working hard for you.  Since they have taken over the Shift Improvement process, Shift Improvements have become few and far between.  The last one that was posted was on Jul 2, 2025.  We now have probationary employees completing their probation and not being moved to the shift that their seniority will allow them to hold.

Passages

“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.”

The Passing of Retired Brother Hank King

With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Hank King. A dedicated member of the American Airlines family, Hank spent 28 years serving our airline in various roles before retiring as an Aviation Maintenance Technician Crew Chief in 1997. Hank’s passion for work and commitment to our union were evident throughout his career. …
