Local 514’s Digest for the week of July 25, 2025

TWU Local 514

President:

All,

I want to express my gratitude to all those who put their names on the election ballot. Being selected to represent the TWU 514 membership is never just an 8-hour job. Over the years, I’ve heard complaints about not working a particular shift and not covering the grievance office 24/7. We have tried putting officers on different shifts and keeping them in the grievance office 24/7. We learned that it was not a good use of their time to cover the membership’s needs. We will continue to put officers in all areas and cover Midnight’s through Afternoon shifts. Their phone numbers will be published, and Union Reps will be available 24/7. Remember, if there’s a contractual violation, you have up to 5 days to file your grievance.

Again, thank you to those who ran for a Union position, thank you to those who participated by voting, and lastly, congratulations to those who were selected to represent our great membership!

I can be reached 24/7 at 918-636-6089

Take care,

Dale Danker

Chairman of Maintenance:

Sleeping on the Job

Please refrain from sleeping while on duty. This behavior is taken very seriously and has resulted in several terminations. Stay alert and professional at all times.

Safety Reminder

Slips, trips, and falls continue to be the leading cause of workplace incidents at the Tulsa base. Always remain aware of your surroundings and take precautions to prevent accidents.

Construction Areas – Detours and Walkways

Please adhere to all posted signs and designated detour routes. Do not enter restricted construction areas under any circumstances. These measures are in place for your safety.

Work Experience Review (WER)

If you have any questions or need clarification regarding your WER submission, please reach out before submitting it to the company. We’re here to help ensure everything is accurate and complete.

Chairman of Facilities Maintenance:

Bedo….. Bedo…. Bedo…..Bedo

That’s a call for help, your union needs your help in facilities, we need union reps. (Shop stewards) on all 3 shifts if you are interested please contact me for information.

Impressive work by everyone involved on the steam line to the test cells, base utilities, Tech crew chiefs, Boiler Room, and carpenters all worked together to accomplish a job that couldn’t be done.

If you get the opportunity to swing by and look at it, please do.

Grievances are at the forefront, we have been working on clearing out the back log that was passed down to us, I’m currently working on pre JCBA grievances if there is no proof of the violation, unfortunately I’m withdrawing them, a lot of which I personally wrote, however we ARE getting some paid.

New grievances are much better written, tracked and controlled and “we” (Kenny Miller and Tony Piparato) are working these as they come up.

If you sign up for overtime please plan to work the entire time that you sign up for, if you don’t work the entire shift it could result in action from the company and heartache from your fellow co workers.

Please be safe if you drive a company vehicle make sure to put it in “P”, shut off the engine, and set the parking brake before you exit the vehicle, and if any of this doesn’t work please contact our friends in GSE.

Thank you to all of you who voted in the past election.

  • Budgeted headcount 316
  • Headcount on base 316
  • Headcount on Loa 9
  • Actual headcount 307

As always feel free to contact me at anytime.

Retirement:

Union involvement goes far beyond current and active membership. The day that you retire doesn’t have to be the day that you stop supporting labor and your TWU local. The retiree committee provides that avenue, a way for you to support and stay connected to the local after retirement. If you are retiring soon, or know someone that has retired, ask them if  they are connected. They meet the third Wednesday of every month at the union hall. Call the hall for more information.

NEOK Labor Council:

One thing to remember is that a unionized worker is paid on average 20% more than a non union worker for doing the same job.

  • GRB Decisions – 3 being paid as soon as the company creates the pay letters.  1 termination is still awaiting a decision

After 2 ½ months, John Hollihan is finally working on clearing up the backlog of grievances.

There should be about 20 more pay letters going forward and about 10 I will need to work on to get them through.  This does not count what was filed this week.

Shift Betterments – Management is slow walking these Shift Betterments.  We will work on developing a better process for them to help improve the lives of those in the Bid units.  Feel free to let them know your feelings on this matter.

Welfare and Entertainment

Tulsa Oilers Football – Made playoffs, waiting on this week’s games to determine seeding.  The 2nd round is a slim chance for a home game.

Tulsa Drillers Baseball – Tuesday, July 25th-27th

Tickets available at the Union Hall M-F 7 am-11 am and 12 pm-4 pm

We had a follow up meeting with WE Street on Family Day.  It was a huge success and we are looking forward to continuing our relationship with them and The Tulsa Oilers.

When you bid from shop to shop, be aware that you are going to the shift in the shop where the vacancy is.   The bids post at 12:01 Saturday morning CST, they close at 11:59pm Tuesday night CST, from that time, you have 48 hours 11:59 CST Thursday night, to refuse the bid.  If your name stays on the list, then you will be recognized as  accepting the transfer.

Monday July 21st, Don, BJ, George, and I met with the Tulsa Oilers at the WeStreet Ice Center for a follow up meeting to discuss the survey results from the TWU Family Fun Day 2025.  Soon, we will be putting together a meeting with the rest of the Event Committee and start discussing plans for the upcoming Trunk or Treat and the Adult Party.

The Tulsa Oilers Football Team did secure a playoff spot, but in the 1st round they will not get a home game.

July 25th, 26th, and 27th, the Tulsa Drillers are playing at home.  Those vouchers are available at the Union Hall.
