Chairman of Facilities Maintenance:

Where do I start?

Central clean room is being totally automated and demolishing has began this project has left me with more questions than answers and as I get information I will pass it along.

We are still in need of union reps in all areas on all shifts, if you are interested in helping mold our future please get in touch with me.

Just so everyone knows I have no control of how management chooses to manage as long as they don’t break the contract or codes of any kind, having a respectful relationship however does tend to sway their decisions, and this is the approach I have chosen, this doesn’t mean I will ever turn a blind eye to anything that crosses boundaries, in my opinion knowing these codes and contract is where the respect is earned, if you notice something that I have missed don’t hesitate to let me know, we are in this together.

We are currently in a hiring “blackout” (I won’t pretend to know what that means) other than we have several openings that we can’t hire until it’s over which should be after the September crew bid.

  • Budgeted headcount 316
  • Current headcount 316
  • Headcount on LOA 8
  • Actual headcount 308

As always, feel free to contact me anytime.

Chairman of Maintenance Control Technicians:

Grievance Review Board (GRB) Application

  • Continuing to work with Allan Ball and Michael Salamon on the GRB application will allow us to store, track, and process the data for all grievances presented to the GRB level. This application will help us to retain Association grievances, but also to use those retained GRB decisions to aid in resolving grievances. Prior to this application, each Local and Union did not have the means to share stored information. Thank you, Allan and Michael, for the tireless work on this project!
  • Met with Labor on Tuesday and presented the GRB Application and process, and the application will be used for the next GRB session in August.

Grievances

  • Continuing to work with the other Association M&R Representatives on the grievances pertaining to Engineering performing MCT and M&R work. If Engineering is doing ANY work that is covered by the Scope language in any of the Association CBA’s, it is a violation of the agreement, and a grievance should be filed. IF Engineering is directing maintenance, then an ASAP should be filed as well.
  • Additionally, I am continuing to work on some of the Pre-JCBA grievances with our Local Officers.

Article 18 Par W 5b  – Late Call proffer under 12 hours

If the proffer of full shift or ECI overtime is less than twelve (12) hours in

advance of the start of the overtime shift, such proffer shall be by phone or by

positive contact if the employee is on shift working at the time of the overtime

Proffer.

  1. Staff Admin may call you. If you answer, then you can accept or deny
  2. If no answer, they will send an email to the supervisor to tap you on the shoulder.
  3. The OT proffer will be halted until the Supervisors find the people on shift.
  4. Supervisors will now go directly to the Crew Chiefs and then go find you, if they find you the offer will be presented.  If they don’t find you “in your work area” they will continue to look and then take appropriate actions as to why you weren’t in your work area.
  • This could lead to an APS entry or a level.
  • If you are not in your work area, there will be no grievance filed or paid unless there is a viable reason! (Management is starting to crack down on this practice)
