Grievance Report

I currently have 176 open grievances.

  • Resolved This Week: 3
  • Resolved MTD: 5
  • Resolved QTD: 12
  • Resolved YTD: 94

We continue to work through the grievance process, addressing outstanding cases and making sure our members’ contractual rights are protected.

Union Business

This week, I attended Article 32J investigatory meetings, representing members and making sure they had Union representation throughout the investigatory process.

As always, if you are called into a meeting that you believe could lead to discipline, request Union representation. Do not assume someone has contacted the Union on your behalf.

Benefits

I continue to assist members with setting up their new NGP benefit accounts, as well as helping members work through FMLA-related issues.

Last week, I traveled to Tampa, Florida, with our Local 514 Benefits Team to attend the Summer Benefits Conference. The conference provided us with updated information and resources that we can bring back to our membership to better assist you with your benefits.

October 26 – Benefits Opportunities at the Tulsa Base

American Airlines will host a Benefits Fair in Tulsa on October 26. This will be a good opportunity for members to learn more about their Company-sponsored benefits, ask questions, and review the options available to them.

Also on October 26, TWU Benefits Counselors will be on base to assist members with their Union-sponsored benefits. They can help you enroll, make changes to your existing coverage, review your current benefits, and update important information such as your beneficiaries.

I strongly encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity. Benefits are something we sometimes put on the back burner until we actually need them. Take a few minutes to review what you currently have, make sure your coverage still meets your needs, and verify that your beneficiary information is accurate and up to date.

Company-sponsored benefits and Union-sponsored benefits are separate, so October 26 gives members a great opportunity to review both and ask questions directly of the people who administer and support these programs.

Safety Corner – Sign Off the Work You Perform

I want to address an issue that continues to come up on the floor: properly signing off your work.

Never sign off for work you did not accomplish or perform. Your sign-off represents your work, and you should never put your name or employee number on work that you did not personally perform or are not responsible for signing off.

At the same time, if you perform the work, make sure you properly sign it off. We are continuing to see situations where work is completed, but the appropriate sign-off is not being made. This creates unnecessary questions and can potentially put both you and your coworkers in a difficult position later.

This is becoming an ongoing issue that needs to be corrected. Take the extra moment to make sure the documentation accurately reflects the work that was performed and who performed it.

Protect yourself, protect your coworkers, and protect your license.

If you didn’t do the work, don’t sign for it. If you did the work, make sure you sign it off.

Welfare & Entertainment

We have several upcoming events for our members and families:

Tulsa Oilers Hockey – October 17
The Tulsa Oilers’ first home hockey game is coming up on October 17.

Trunk or Treat – October 24
Our TWU Local 514 Trunk or Treat will be held at the TWU Hall from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Bring the family out and enjoy the candy haunted house, inflatables, and an evening with your Union Brothers and Sisters.

TWU Local 514 80th Anniversary Adult Party – November 21
This year’s Adult Party will be held from 6:00 p.m. to midnight at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa.

This year is especially important as we celebrate 80 years of TWU Local 514 – 1946–2026. We will have a live interactive DJ, photo booths, magicians, casino games with prizes, food, drinks, special guests, and more.

80 Years of Solidarity — Built by our members, powered by solidarity.

Whether it is working grievances, standing beside a member during a 32J investigation, helping someone through an FMLA issue, answering benefits questions, or making sure our members have the information and resources they need, the work of representing this membership never stops.

Some of that work happens at the grievance table, some happens in meetings with the Company, and a lot of it happens one member at a time. Every grievance we pursue, every member we represent, every benefits issue we help resolve, and every workplace concern we address has the same purpose: protecting our members and making sure their voices are heard.

As we move forward, we also have a responsibility to look out for one another. Work safely, document your work correctly, know your benefits, know your rights, and never hesitate to reach out to your Union when you need representation or assistance.

A strong Union isn’t just measured by the grievances we win. It’s measured by how we stand together, how we protect one another, and how we show up for our members every single day.

Stay informed. Stay involved. Stay united.

United we stand. Together we are stronger.
