President:
All,
This week I attended the Winter IEC (International Executive Council) meeting in Ft Lauderdale, FL. Being an International VP requires me to attend these meetings 3 times a year to listen to our financial report as well as reports from all division and department Directors. We discuss what is going on around the system and approve the reports just as we do in our local meetings.
Our Union Organizing Department continues to win campaigns, and it now appears that our Air Division is larger than the Transit and Railroad divisions. Good job guys!
During the meetings I sit with Gary Schaible and Rollie Reaves. We take every opportunity to discuss issues going on at our local stations. This week Gary and I reviewed our thoughts on several Crew Chief issues. Rollie is working to get a meeting at AA HDQ with a small group to try and resolve these long standing problems.
I can be reached 24/7 at 918-636-6089. If you have any questions or would like for me to visit your area on your shift, please give me a call.
Take care
Vice President:
Steward Meetings are Monday, February 10th at 7:15 am, 11:45 am, and 3:45 pm.
President’s Day is Monday, February 17th. You have until Sunday the 9th to go into Workbrain and select how you would like to be coded for the holiday.
American Airlines is now requiring you to recertify your FMLA every 6 months instead of every year.
If you have questions about FMLA you can go to https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/fmla/faq#1 for information.

Chairman of Maintenance
Dallas PPE Safety Meeting
- Jim Holt, Clay Streeter, and I attended the PPE safety meeting in Dallas this week. One key topic discussed was the company’s plan to implement mandatory safety glasses and bump hats. As of now, it appears that Tulsa may not have enough supply to support this requirement, which is expected to take effect in early March.
- If you are experiencing issues with prescription safety glasses and haven’t reached out to me yet, please do so.
Social Media
- Be mindful when using any social media platform. The world and the company are watching, and topics that may seem harmless to you could have unintended consequences for everyone involved.
Bids/Transfers
- If you are considering transferring to another shop and your current position aligns well with your home life—or if you are in A&P school—please speak with a board member first. We want to ensure you understand the potential risks before making a move.
Shift Improvement
- If you’re interested in shift improvement, contact the board member assigned to your area for further details.

Chairman of Facilities Maintenance:
For whatever reason the company has decided to move all non motorized GSE equipment to GSE, (mules, stands, etc.) this is work that has historically been accomplished by our back shops, I have explained our intentions of filing grievances if they move this work.
I’m sitting in Dallas airport waiting for my flight home after attending a 2 day PPE approval meeting in Dallas and wondering what the heck am I doing this for ?
I didn’t sign up for this ?
I keep telling myself… one bite at a time Jim.
Then I have to calm myself and say…. WE are in this for the majority and the majority may not realize the benefit of this, the majority only wants better language in our contract and wants the issues that plague our organization resolved, together we can resolve them, this is why I signed up, and this is what I intend to do, I have great help from our president down to our members, all of which are good people just looking for a fair shake, I feel we have to keep moving full steam ahead, for ALL of our trades, I know what the company is trying to accomplish and I know most of our management doesn’t take the time to realize they are digging in a mud pit with a gold shovel, we have to somehow make them realize what they are searching for is in their hands.
I finally figured it out
- Current headcount 321
- Budgeted headcount 316
- Headcount on LOA 7
- Actual headcount on base 315
As always feel free to contact me at anytime.

Executive Board Members at Large:
George Albano:
Grievances
I met with Senior Manager Michael Stearns on Wednesday. I presented four grievances, one of which will be paid, one of which is moving forward to the next step, one for which I need more information, and one that is still in discussion.
Shift Improvement
I’m currently working on shift improvements for 223 and 225. Please be ready to answer your phone if you are interested in going to a better shift/days off pattern.
Compliance
Please be mindful to follow the instructions of EAs and ECOs, etc., verbatim. Please document any discrepancies in a non routine and bring it to the attention of your Supervisor and Crew Chief.
I am generally on base, starting at 6:30 to 4:00. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if needed.

Tracy Hardin:
Have been continuing to work on older grievances, trying to gather information that was missing or not uploaded. Having some success this week with resolving three and withdrawing 2. Remember to provide as much as you can at the time of the violation.
AAERO
I met with the leadership over the last several weeks about the headcount rumors. They are just that—rumors. If you have been out here for over five years, rumors are the norm, so don’t panic. You may change the way you have done business, but everyone is staying put. Keep up the GREAT WORK!!
Benefits
Some of you have been getting emails or text messages about making premium adjustments. If you are having trouble, just give us a call. We can usually resolve issues over the phone or email. UBP is working with Lincoln to improve our STD/LTD payouts due to recent pay increases. Once confirmed ,everyone will be notified.
So, you think you or someone in your family may need surgery this year? You may want to consider using the services of LANTERN, formally SurgeryPlus. They can ease the process and do the heavy lifting for you and your dependents. Access through the benefits website.
If you have an FSA or HSA account, this would be a good time to make sure it is being funded before you need it.
Civil and Human Rights
Member on member conflict is something that should trouble us all. There is no place for it when you come to work for that reason, work. The union and the company have expectations that have not changed. If you have an issue, reach out for help and don’t let it escalate. Find a way to respect your fellow co-worker.
Holiday
The next union-negotiated holiday will be Monday, February 17th.

Don McCormick:
It has been a very busy week to start the month. Normally I am on base in AO or the grievance office. I have been out on the base the last 5 out of 6 weekends to resolve matters that needed attention. Most of the meetings with Management are between 9AM and 3PM. I am usually on base until 6:30PM and have no problem helping resolve issues as need be. You can contact myself, or any officer if you have any questions or concerns.

- October – Resolved 27 with 12 paid and 15 W/D
- November – Resolved 22 with 6 paid and 16 W/D
- December – Resolved 14 with 2 paid and 12 W/D
- January – Resolved 22 with 10 paid and 12 W/D
- February – Resolved 7 with 5 paid and 2 W/D
- The 15 grievances agreed to be paid by Sr. Manager Beene will be resolved hopefully this week. They will be put in the Resolved and closed once Management issues the pay letters to the members.
SOCIAL MEDIA
Please refrain from posting anything on social media that relates to American Airlines or anything else that could incriminate you. The company has a social media policy online and has a team in Corporate Security that goes out and looks into postings involving the company.
Posting could lead to disciplinary action, including but not limited to termination.
AO NEWS
There will be another Management swap between HGR 1/2/3 and HGR 5/6. This one will reverse the original swap by sending Bryan Beene, Mark Winters, and Dominick Brasher back to HGR 1/2/3 and Mike Stearns and Kevin Underwood back to HGR 5/6 this upcoming Monday, February 10th.
HGR 5/6
- 5F LG pits were filled with rock (40 Loads) and concrete on Jan 20/21. We currently have a 787 in the dock.
- Every dock is moving toward E-tasks. Feel free to reach out to the representatives for training and help.
- Performed a shift improvement for 2 AMTs in HGR 5 plus the placement of 13 transfers in.
- Performed a shift improvement for 22 AMT’s in HGR 6 plus the placement of 2 member off LOA and 14 Transfers in.
- 787 News – It has been announced that we will be getting another 787 line very soon to be in dock 6B. The management team has already started the process of obtaining the 142 heads (Manpower) to fill the line. Be looking for open transfers to the area.
- CC’s – With the additional line and head count increase, we will need approximately 10 more CC Positions. These should be posted over the next couple of months. Reach out to existing CC’s , Management, or myself about what the jobs will entail
AAERO Rumors – THIS IS A REPEAT SINCE THE RUMOR KEEPS GOING
Had 2 impromptu meetings with AAERO group CC’s and Management to discuss the rumors of them being over headcount and 200 members being moved out to AO.
- The return of Lease Engines is the key driver.
- Heavies take an average of 52 days to turn. Check and Repair Engines take 20-40 days to turn.
- They are getting better yields on their engines for numerous reasons including the EGT Probes testing which had lowered the temp by 40 Degree average which equated to the engines being able to be on wing longer. Up to 2 years.
- AAERO had 80 engines sitting outside last year and have managed to get that down to 34.
- Parts are always an issue with manufacturers and this mode the next few months will help them catch up.
The Plan is to reduce the heavies and concentrate more on the Check and Repair side for 3-4 months which requires fewer headcount in the areas. While this is happening they look to move some extra heads to the Check and repair area. They are also looking at cross training Members on other jobs in their respective areas.
They stated numerous times that no one will be surplused out. They need everyone they have in the group when the heavies pick back up in 3-4 months. They will however not be backfilling as much in some areas.
RETIREMENT – Whether you’re 60 days from retirement or 30 years. We highly recommend you go to the TWU Website and review the Retirement Checklist.
- It is crucial that each member is informed on what benefits are out there and what they should be doing to have a successful plan for retirement.
- There are hyperlinks to different resources on there with approximate timelines of when to complete or review the steps…
EACH member is responsible for their own financial situation. This will help guide you in the right direction.
Welfare and Entertainment
- Tulsa Oilers HOCKEY – Tickets are available in the grievance office and the Union Hall.
- Tulsa Oilers FOOTBALL – Season starts in April. Look for more news on when tickets will be available in March.
Family Day will be June 1st at the WE Street Center.
