Local 514’s Digest for the week of May 10, 2024

President:

This week, we continued working on the contracts via Zoom call.

Also, the vendor working on the 2D aircraft is being handled at the international level. American has 3 planes at base locations with vendors working them. I believe the contract does not support the company’s position on this. There are details to follow on what, if anything, gets settled on this issue.

Our TWU International has committed staff employees who are involved with Congress members to improve and strengthen the FAA rules and regulations that impact the flying public and those who work in the airline industry.

Please see the article on The Hill (here) You can also read the actual legislation language here.

I took 3 days of vacation this week, but as always, I will answer my phone and try to help with any situation.

I can be reached at 918-636-6089.

Vice President:

Cleaner work

  • CRO management notified the union that there will be a process change in the cleaning portion of work that comes from the base to the CRC. Things like engine cowls, flaps, spoilers, and flight controls will be sent to a cleaning shop on the base due to the water waste system at the CRC going over the limit; after the parts are cleaned, they will be sent to the CRC for repair.  Work from the field will still be sent directly to the CRC and cleaned there. There will be no loss of work for Tulsa.

Chairman of Facilities Maintenance:

Safety

I hope everyone has safety at the forefront of their thoughts because all of the protocols in place do not protect you from yourself. Please be aware of construction all over the Tulsa base and make choices that your loved ones would approve of because THEY are the ones that will be affected most if you get hurt or killed.

Thank you for the pictures you are sending me of the contractor’s lack of, safety, care, and cleanliness; because of those pictures, the contractors are being noticed by more than just us.

I will continue to pass them on to higher levels of management.

Thank you, Mom’s for without you, NONE of us would be here.

Happy Mother’s Day weekend.

As always, feel free to contact me at any time.

Don McCormick:

 Disaster Relief for Barnsdall

I just spoke with a couple of our members who live in Barnsdall, OK. They mentioned how devastating it is and were reaching out to try and get some immediate help. We have 4 members there and another 25 in Bartlesville that have been impacted by the recent round of tornadoes in numerous ways.

Barnsdall Mayor assigned Sayra Bryant, School Superintendent, to be the Coordinator of the Disaster Relief, food, Volunteers, FEMA liaison, etc. She said they had 180 homes Destroyed or damaged. They had 600 volunteers Thursday, but not all of them could help since FEMA has requirements and obvious safety issues with the clean-up and heavy equipment around there.

They need the following items so they can hand out to the numerous volunteers and help get them closer to healing their
community:

 1. High visibility Vests – So Heavy equipment and vehicles can spot them.
2. Gloves – Leather or Hy-Flex style
3. Safety Glasses
4. Ear Plugs
5. Hand Sanitizer or Baby Wipes. Small travel size
6. Bug Spray
7. Sunscreen.

  • If there is anything we can do to help our e?ected members and the surrounding community I implore us to make the e?ort whether donating items, money, or volunteering your time.

Mothers Day

  • Help celebrate and honor Mothers Sunday May 12th.
