Local 514’s Digest for the week of May 16th, 2025

TWU Local 514

President:

This week, I attended meetings in Calgary with Gary Schaible, Rollie Reaves, several TWU reps, and other airline workers worldwide to discuss mental health issues amongst our work groups. In our current state, we have EAP counselors both Union and Company for our folks to reach out to. Still, it was clear to me that in Tulsa, more work must be done to ensure our Union members know that if they are going through a difficult time, help is confidential and available to them. If you read this, please share with your fellow workers to be each other’s keepers. If someone is struggling, please try to reach out to them and let them know there is help available.

On my return trip to Tulsa, I had a 4-hour layover at DFW, so Rollie took advantage of the time and called HDQ. He asked Labor Director Mark Nelson if he had time to meet with Rollie and me over the issue in Tulsa, where management is telling Crew Chiefs who will be on their crews. The meeting was productive, and I will follow up next week after Mark has had a chance to visit with Josh Voss. It’s very clear to the Union and the Company that what they are doing now is simply dodgeball on steroids, their words, not mine.

We also discussed the Presidential Grievance, I call dodgeball, and the opportunity to get that case to mediation and then on to arbitration in December if a resolution cannot be reached. I will continue interviewing Crew Chiefs and as many crews as possible in May and June. I’ve had discussions with several Crew Chiefs in 5 and 6, but have a handful more to speak with. When I finish in 5 and 6, the officers and I will move to another area and complete that area before moving on. I want to thank the Crew Chiefs for their time. Getting input from all Tulsa Chiefs on what ideas to explore to find a solution is invaluable, and I could not go to mediation or arbitration without it.

I can be reached at 918-636-6089. I know some tell me I’ve reached out to you, but you never respond. Please don’t contact me by AA email. I will not discuss our Union business on their platform. Please call or text.

Take care,

Dale Danker

Chairman of Facilities Maintenance:

I have been on vacation this past week in Barbados, and it reminds me that the job we have here at American is more than just a job.

I have had the pleasure of taking my family on vacation all over the world; it’s not normal for a blue-collar man to be able to do this.

I thoroughly appreciate the fact you can do anything you want at any place in the world you want to do it, you can be a gate agent in  Florida if you want or you can be facilities in Phoenix or even be a pilot somewhere I can’t pronounce, and you can earn a good living doing any of these options.

This is largely attributed to our beloved Union, the Transport Workers Union, and that is largely attributed to you. I know we have to continually fight for the rights of the American workforce so that our children and our grandchildren have the same opportunities we have enjoyed here at American Airlines if they so choose.

Thank you all for helping me, us, keep this way of life we enjoy.

I am truly honored to be your Facilities Chairman

As always, feel free to text or call me at any time.

Assessing FAA Reauthorization One Year Later

Major Safety Wins, But More Must Be Done

Foreign aircraft repair facilities are now subject to drug and alcohol testing, and flight dispatchers are no longer allowed to work remotely, but there’s still plenty of work needed from the Federal Aviation Administration to fully implement last year’s FAA Reauthorization law.
