Local 514’s Digest for the week of August 9th, 2024

President:

This week I attended a TWU all Divisions Presidents meeting in Denver, Colorado where we listened to different speakers address common challenges across all work groups. The Directors of each TWU Division then had breakout sessions with different work groups on day 2 and day 3. The TWU Locals that represent M&R/Fac,GSE, MLS, MCT, MTS, and Fleet discussed issues surrounding the upcoming meeting with American Airlines on August 26th. The two main topics were, what will the offer be and will it be voted on. We don’t know what they will offer and if there is an amendment to the contract that it will have to be voted on by the membership.

I can be reached 24/7 at 918-636-6089.

Stay safe in this heat.

Dale Danker

Vice President:

There are a lot of rumors and speculation on the floor. The company has not yet presented anything on an extension. That will happen August 26. The negotiation committee will discuss the proposal on the 27th. TWU International has stated an extension would not be more than two years and possibly less.

Tracy Hardin:

We as Labor Unions always want to advocate for more union members and that every worker is paid a fair wage. We are supporting minimum wage advocacy in Oklahoma by keeping these key points in mind:

  • Oklahoma’s minimum wage is tied to the federal rate, which has been $7.25 per hour since 2009.
  • A person working full-time for $7.25 has a gross annual income of less than $15,000.
  • Most minimum wage workers (55.7%) are working adults over the age of 25.
  • Many front-fine workers in our community-including home health care, childcare, teachers assistants are low-wage workers.
  • Currently, 1 in 3 Oklahomans make less than a living wage, meaning that many of our friends and neighbors are struggling to make ends meet.
  • Oklahoma is one of the nation’s poorest states, with 1 in 6 Oklahomans living at or below the federal poverty level. 1 in 5 Oklahoma children are living in poverty.

Support for a minimum wage goes beyond you. Educate, Advocate, and Support.

There have been several issues with Field trip hours recently in AO for the Members coming off probation.  They are supposed to be put on the FT List with the hours of the Highest plus one.   Some are being averaged in and others receiving zero hours.  If you see this, notify an officer or Steward with the information so they can research it and get them corrected.

HGR 5/6 we were notified of 3 FT bypasses this week due to this issue and the 2 individual hours were corrected with 3 members being told they will be paid for the bypasses.
