Union Stewards Meetings

 Monday, September 9, 2024

  •   7:15 am
  • 11:45 am
  •   3:45 pm

As many of you know, there was an incident last weekend where an individual crashed through a gate and gained access into the base. Your leadership has been told to address this issue with every work group.

Although it is our responsibility to verify we all belong here on base, never put yourself in a dangerous situation. If you see something out of the ordinary, call 911 from a company phone and have security handle it.

If you have been affected in any way by this incident you can reach out to Sheila Carlson or the Employee Assistance Program at my.aa.com/eap.

The Woody Guthrie Center is hosting a double screening this weekend of a new Dropkick Murphy’s documentary; free with admission to the public and free for union members. The documentary covers the bands pursuit of creating an album using unreleased Woody Guthrie lyrics. Below are the event details.

September 7, 2024 2-3pm
September 8, 2024 2-3pm

Union members can enjoy complimentary admission to the screening by showing their union membership cards. At these screenings, the union members will receive one free general admission ticket to the 2024 Woody Guthrie Prize, featuring Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, and other bands) on Sept. 25, 2024, at Cain’s Ballroom, while supplies last, courtesy of Woody Guthrie Publications, Inc.

Marla Johnson

Recording Secretary:

Have we lost the spirit of Labor Day?

Today, Labor Day is no longer about trade unionists marching down the street with banners and their tools of trade. Instead, it is a confused holiday with no associated rituals.

The original holiday was meant to handle the problem of long working hours and no time off. Although the battle over these issues would seem to have been won long ago, this issue is starting to come back with a vengeance, not for manufacturing workers but for highly skilled white-collar workers, many of whom are constantly connected to work.

If you work all the time and never really take a vacation, start a new ritual that honors the original spirit of Labor Day. Give yourself the day off. Don’t go to work. Shut off your phone, computer and other electronic devices connecting you to your daily grind. Then go to a barbecue, like the original participants did over a century ago, and celebrate having at least one day off from work during the year!

As one the largest trade Unions in the State, you would think we could assemble enough members to support holding a banner and marching alongside our float to support trade unions in the State. This year we had two members show up in Henryetta, myself and Denny Kramer. I hope that we can do a lot better next year to get back to what Labor Day stands for.

Chairman of Facilities Maintenance:

This past week I attended the contractual quarterly meeting in Dallas and although the talks seemed to be staged, Mark Nelson from the company led these meetings and he seems to have common sense regarding contracting out work, if it makes sense for facilities to do it, we should be doing it, I was able to get the ears of the all the people in attendance and prove to them that with the proper tools training and headcount we could save our company a considerable amount of frustration, time and money.

I hope eventually this message falls into the right lap, until it does I will keep preaching it.

  • Budgeted headcount 316
  • Current Headcount 319
  • Headcount on Loa 11
  • Actual headcount 308

Tracy Hardin:

We sometimes forget that our crew chief is more than just our co-worker, they are also leaders with a big responsibility. It is vital that the crew and crew chief have a trustworthy and respectful relationship. We expect at least that much out of all of our members, so work to have that type of environment for everyone you work with.

Benefit enrollment time is getting close, so if you had any changes in your family over the past year, collect that information now. Remember to name beneficiaries for all of your policies during this enrollment period.

Daron Morgan:

I hope everyone enjoyed their Labor Day Holiday.  Our next Union Negotiated Holidays will be Veteran’s Day on Monday November 11th, and then Thanksgiving Day and the Day after on Thursday November 28th and 29th.

Although it was a short workweek, my grievance backlog is still there and I am working to get it current.

My next meeting with the CRO Leadership will be on Tuesday Sep 10, 2024.

Our next GRB meeting will be in October and I will have more grievances prepped and ready to send, if we cannot get them resolved locally

The September rebid shifts starts on Monday September 9th.   Along with that and the 150+ positions that were posted for TUL last week, there will be a lot of movement going on at the Tulsa Base.

There are a lot of great events happening with the Local.  For the latest updates check out our website at www.twu514.org  If you cannot login contact any officer and they can get you reset.
