Local 514’s Digest for the week of September 19th, 2025

TWU Local 514

President:

This week, your elected officers and convention delegates journeyed to Las Vegas, NV, for the 27th TWU Constitutional Convention. Our Local 514 delegates cast votes not only for International Officers but also on crucial resolutions that will guide the International Officers’ work for the next four years. A link to review all passed resolutions will be shared in the coming weeks.

The John Samuelsen Slate won by acclamation as there were no opposing candidates for positions on the International Administrative Council (IAC), International Executive Council (IEC), or International Executive Board (IEB). I actively promoted TWU Local 514, and to ensure our retention of an International VP, IEC position, which I’ve held since 2013, I advocated for Local 514 VP Marla Johnson to be offered an IEB position. I’m pleased to report that she is now on the IEB, and I maintained my VP position on the IEC. These roles enable Marla and me to influence the International’s direction and continue supporting the 514 membership.

As always, I’m available 24/7 at 918-636-6089.

Take care,

Dale Danker

Vice President:

It’s been a great week at the 27th TWU International Convention. We appreciate the support and trust of our Local in sending us as your representatives.

This week, I attended the 27th TWU Constitutional Convention in Las Vegas. Dale Danker was re-elected as International Vice President, and Marla Johnson was elected to the International Executive Board. We heard discussions on the Threat of AI and Advancing Technology to American Jobs. It was nice visiting with other union brothers and sisters from TWU Locals across the Air, Rail, and Transit Divisions.

We will have job postings in the following bid areas: 022S (Issuing), 025S (CAM), 031S (Shipping), 034S (Receiving).

Executive Board Members at Large:

George Albano:

This week, I attended the 27th TWU International Convention, my first convention. Let me just say that it was very inspiring to see how the TWU fights back against companies trying to take wages and benefits from their employees.

Being here has reignited my determination to energize and mobilize the 514 membership. In just 18 months, we’ll face a critical moment, one that will require all of us to stand together to protect and improve our wages, benefits, and working conditions.

Congratulations to TWU514 Dale Danker, INTL VP, and Marla Johnson, newly elected INTL Executive Board member.

Linda Dill:

It has been a very successful week at our TWU 27th Constitutional Convention. Union work is getting done nationwide, and there is always something new to see and learn at the education on working in a union.

Congratulations to President John Samuelsen, Executive Vice-President Alex Garcia, Secretary       Treasurer Jerome Lafragola, Administrative VP Curtis Tate, and Administrative VP Mike Mayes on their re-elections.

Congratulations to our own TWU514 Dale Danker, INTL VP, and newly elected INTL Executive Board, Marla Johnson.

TWU514 Delegates are soaking up a lot of stories/history from our TWU Locals around the system in Transit, Bus, Rail, and Air. The stories in the fights against companies and the power of our TWU union are inspiring. The organizing being done is like nothing TWU has seen before. A wide range of guest speakers who fully support TWU members give us energy to continue the fight, knowing our leadership at our INTL is fully ready to bring what is needed for TWU members. The unity of our TWU514 is the foundation of our strength. As President Samuelsen said, there should be no in-fighting amongst our members…..don’t give companies any more power over union members. Stand together, learn together, fight together-together we win.

DID YOU KNOW:

Michael Quill (TWU founding father) first organized TWU members in NYC in 1934. The TWU of America, AFL-CIO, now represents more than 160,000 members across the Airline, Railroad, and Transit University Utilities and Services.
