Local 514’s Digest for the week of October 6, 2023

President:

We all want the future of Tulsa to be strong.  To that point I’m encouraged by the news hitting the floor today that the Tulsa engine shop will increase their volumes from 10 to 15 engines per month.  The company will hold town hall meetings in the near future to inform us of their plan to achieve this increase.  The increase will require additional material, parts and increased headcount. Increased headcount typically creates opportunities for movement for all classifications around the base. Let’s all give the engine shop team a standing ovation.  Their efforts in producing those volumes will benefit all of us.

The bad news…. I continue to receive calls from our facilities guys that their management team desires to outsource their work. Even when our guys have the work order in hand, the material ordered and sitting in the work area our guys show up to do the job assignment from their Crew Chief to find a vendor doing the work. The facilities Scope language is terrible and needs strengthened. Please continue to keep an eye out for any unsafe equipment, work platforms,  docks,  restrooms, parking lots,  fencing,  lighting, doors,  overhead doors, plumbing or HVAC issues and get them reported to your crew chief or local management team. They should call facilities to report it. Our Facilities members are very capable of providing us a safe work environment if given the chance.

Jay Potter and I met with the Association M&R/MLS team on Monday.

I’m available 24/7 at 918-636-6089

Take care

Dale Danker

Chairman of Facilities Maintenance:

So this week I have attended a couple of supervisors meetings in addition to a couple of crew meetings including the plating shop,  it seems there has been much progress made there concerning safety and protocol. We still have a lot of work to do but we are headed in the right direction.

Fire drills were conducted this week in several areas  on the base, thanks to our safety team and our electronics team in fire repair there have been several issues found and identified.

We have several openings in Facilities. Keep an eye on the bids.

  • Budgeted headcount 304
  • Headcount on lOA 5
  • Actual headcount 306

As always feel free to contact me.

Daron Morgan:

  • I was on Vacation 09/26 thru 10/2
  • I have been working in the grievance Office
  • Currently, I have 157 open grievances that are assigned to me.  That number changes daily.   As I work through the grievances, I will keep the shop stewards that wrote them informed, and may be asking them for additional information.  The majority of my grievances are OT bypasses.  My goal is to get these grievances down to a manageable number, so I can spend more time on the floor.
  • I spent some time in the Plating Shop this week.  I have attended their Leadership meeting as well as their crew meeting.
  • As always, I have my phone on 24/7.  If you call, and I don’t answer, leave a voicemail, and I will get back to you as soon as possible, or you can send me a text or an email if you choose.
