Local 514’s Digest for the week of November 8th, 2024

President:

All,

This week, the board and I reviewed many Crew Chief-known outage grievances. I was somewhat shocked by the lack of information to review in the files. If you are a member or a union representative, please gather as much information about a contractual violation as possible when it happens. For example, If you feel like you were bypassed for a field trip/OT or really for just about any grievance, it would be essential to know the date, if it involved work, what was worked on, who worked it, where was the job accomplished, what management was on duty, witnesses, handwritten statements by people that would help verify a violation, crew rosters, bid sheets and at times an Officer may take pictures of an area that may be in question. The point is a grievance that says, on this date, a contractual violation happened to me, and the remedy is that I deserve all monies owed is simply not a grievance that will likely get paid without facts. Please help by gathering as much information as possible when the perceived violation happens. This will significantly improve our chances of proving the grievance and getting an award for you.

There are many issues surrounding the 9ff split in Hangar 5/6 that are taking place now.  I along with Don McCormick, Joe Brown, Rollie Reaves and all of HR including Ed Sangricco are having conversations to make sure no ones Seniority is violated for determining their choice of bid area as well as vacation selection……stay tuned.

Also, if you are on a crew with four (4) or more employees, you get your job assignments from a crew chief, not management. If a supervisor tries to pull you off a job assignment to redirect you, that is also a violation. Please involve a union rep to stop the supervisors from performing crew chief duties.

I enjoyed visiting with several members at the Adult Party this year. Everyone seemed to have a smile on their face. To the committee members and Officers involved, I want to say thank you. It was a very well-put-together event. GREAT JOB!

If you would like to visit in your area on your shift, please give me a call, and I will come see you. I’m also available to meet in my office and always available 24/7 at 918-636-6089.

VETERANS,

I did not understand your sacrifice until my daughter joined the United States Navy.

Thank You for your service to our great country.

The 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11th Month

Happy Veterans Day this upcoming Monday, November 11th; enjoy your day; you earned it.

Dale Danker

Vice President:

Avionic Bid Units in Hangars 5 and 6

It has come to our attention that a survey has been issued claiming that the Management and Union are asking the avionics work group to choose between a Tuesday/Wednesday day off or a split weekend-only schedule.

There was a meeting held with Dale Danker, Joe Brown, Gene Chapin, and George Albano. I could not attend because I was out of town on Union business. The management team did bring up this scenario to our Union Representatives, and Dale Danker responded that we do not have the contractual right to determine shifts and days off and would not be a part of that. As always, we have never agreed to the Tuesday/Wednesday schedule and always push for Saturday/Sunday schedules as much as possible.

We had no involvement with this request.

Veterans Day is Monday, November 11th.

“Honoring the sacrifices many have made for our country in the name of freedom and democracy is the very foundation of Veterans Day.” — Charles B. Rangel

Thank you to all the veterans.

Thanksgiving is November 28th.

The window is now open to select how you would like to be coded in Workbrain.

Don McCormick:

This week has been as crazy as last week. Do full moons last all month? Between all the confrontations, Benefits, Adult Parties, Splitting Bid units, another near miss in HGR 6, Management shuffle, and Interviews for Planners and CCs, please be mindful of your surroundings and your fellow Union members and work safely.

Benefits have been the priority for the second week.  Make sure you see the counselors today as this is the last day they will be here in the town hall in Hgr 3.

Grievances have been slow this week with everything else going on. They will be processed and moved next week as the top priority.

Grievances – 262 open

  • October –        Resolved 27 with 12 paid and 15 W/D
  • November –    Resolved 12 with 6 paid and 6 W/D

                        YTD-     478 Resolved

Management Shuffle –  Bryan Beene and Mark Winters have been moved to HGR 5/6.

Mike Stearns and Kervin Underwood have been moved over to HGR 1/2/3

Bryan Beene and Mike Stearns are integral to the Grievance process, and we are working to establish roles, meeting times, and guidelines to move forward with the grievance procedures.

 HGR 5/6

  • 777 shoring fell on 3 fellow union members on October 28th.  2 were critically injured and will be out for a few weeks.  The other one is sore as can be when 615 pounds lands on top of you.   A second incident happened with a 777 Saturday Nov. 2nd with using incorrect tooling and equipment on a gear change.  Be mindful of the surroundings and call out anything you see that is a safety concern.
  • The company split the Bid unit and posted the members moving to 263. We are still working with them on a few items to clarify.
  • Bryan Beene (Sr. Manager) and Mark Winters (Manager) will be working in the Bid unit and helping transition the 737 lines to best practices similar to HGR 1/2/3

Welfare and Entertainment.

  • The Adult Party at the Hard Rock last Saturday night had 900 attendees.
    • It was a great night, and we wanted to thank all the volunteers who helped make it a success.
    • We have sent a survey and the winning door prize numbers to all who attended.  Please help by completing the survey and picking up your prizes by November 15th.
    • All prizes not picked up by November 15th, will be forfeited and be distributed as Door Prizes at future Membership meetings.
  • Tulsa Oilers Hockey – Tickets are available in the grievance office and the Union Hall.

How to Honor Veterans on Veterans Day

Veterans Day is a time to honor and thank those who have served in the military for their sacrifices and dedication. It’s an important day to show appreciation.

You might consider writing a heartfelt letter or spending time with a veteran, listening to their stories and sharing their experiences. Volunteering at a local veterans’ organization or donating to nonprofits that support veterans’ health and well-being can also make a meaningful impact. Even simple acts like attending a Veterans Day ceremony or flying the American flag show respect and solidarity.
