Local 514’s Digest for the week of Apr 14, 2023

President:

It has been another busy week for all of us. A few weeks have passed since Rollie Reeves and  Gary Schaible and I were in DC lobbying. Below is a letter on some of the work we did.

Dear Acting Administrator Nolen,

On behalf of more than 155,000 members of the Transport Workers Union of America (TWU), the largest union of U.S. airline workers, I am writing in response to the above referenced rule making. TWU members include aircraft mechanics (both line and overhaul), flight attendants, ground service workers, dispatchers, pilot instructors, and others who work in and around aircraft on a daily basis. The use of safety management systems (SMS) by all of the pieces of our air transportation system will directly affect these workers, as well as the traveling public.

Vice President:

Terry, Tracy and I went to Dallas for an EAP meeting this week. Suicide rates are still a great concern. 47,000 die by suicide annually. It is the second leading cause of death in people from ages 10 to 34 and fourth in ages 35 to 54.

If you or someone you know needs support now, call or text:

Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988 or Chat988LifeLine.org

The next Membership meeting will be April 27, 2023

Chairman of Facilities Maintenance:

So, I went to the contractual quarterly meeting this week with the company and the union, in attendance for the company on the facilities side was Paul Guenternt, we mainly talked about the rental issues plaguing the system, not being able to track who’s requesting them and the lack of the rental company doing maintenance to the AA standard, I had an opportunity to bring up the issues of fire protection, and the apathy on the company’s part of following the required codes, the meeting was about 2 hours so I wasn’t able to go into great detail however I will follow up with more details by email to management.

There was a meeting prior which was solely the association with the new international TWU rep, Bill Clark, and I had the opportunity to express my concern in great detail of the importance of the upcoming contract negotiations and how the Tulsa base must be involved.

We have had several members stop by the hall to conduct business or speak with an officer, sometimes we miss each other for various reasons. I would suggest you call to make sure someone is there and remember, Jana is out from 11am to 12 noon. This way we can address your concerns.

The local Veterans Committee is joining forces with base VMERG group to host a veterans benefit fair on May 11th. In the 3 & 4 Townhall room from 9am – 5pm. Dust off your DD214 and come speak to someone to start the benefit claims process.

Plan you summer outing. July 1-2, 2023 there will be a free airshow at Tinker Air Force Base in the OKC area. For more information and schedule of performances log onto www.tinker.af.mil

I will put up posters around the base.
