Support the Protection from Abusive Passengers Act
Dear TWU Members & Allies,
Assaults against aviation workers have skyrocketed over the past year, but despite the severity and frequency of these violent events, not a single passenger who has assaulted a ground service worker has been prosecuted under federal law. Will you send a letter to your elected official asking them to support H.R.7433 and S.4019, the Protection from Abusive Passengers Act?
The Protection from Abusive Passengers Act will protect airline crew members, security screening personnel, and passengers by banning abusive passengers from commercial aircraft flights. The TWU has been calling for a Banned Passenger List since the fall of 2021.
This bill has the potential to be a game changer. Introduced by Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA-15), Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-1), and Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI), it will implement a list of “abusive passengers” – those who intimidated, threatened or assaulted an aviation worker. Any individual on the list would be prohibited from boarding any commercial aircraft.
If you support the implementation of such a list, send a letter to your elected official today, telling them to support the Protection from Abusive Passengers Act!
2022 Aerospace Maintenance Competition (AMC)
After a two-year hiatus, the Aerospace Maintenance Competition (AMC) Presented by Snap-On is back on! On April 25-28, 2022,
After two full days of intense competition, the 2022 Aerospace Maintenance Competition (AMC) closed today with an award ceremony honoring the student, military, maintenance repair overhaul (MRO) and commercial aviation teams who gave it their all.
In the overall MRO category, American Airlines made it to the podium – twice! Team Tulsa placed second and the DWH Air Raiders placed third.
“Congratulations to our Tulsa team. Tulsa is one of our largest operations in the organization, and we have some of the finest mechanics standing here right now.”
One of the student teams sponsored by American also ranked at the top of their class. Many team members at American devote countless hours of their own time to mentoring students in aviation maintenance, including the overall School category first place winners, the Tulsa Tech Adult Student Program.

Major League Fishing & The USA – Skilled Labor Unites to Build Fish Habitat Structures
Thanks to ALL the Local 514 members that participated in this event!
Major League Fishing partners with The Union Sportsmen’s Alliance to construct OVER 100 “Georgia Cube” fishing habitat structures! Thanks to the volunteers from several different unions who gave their time & talent to create in 8-hours what would take a fisheries division OVER 6-months to complete. Our volunteers were grateful for the opportunity to give back to their local communities and fellow sportsmen – and we were able to experience some local anglers finding success shortly after we deployed these structures. (Make sure you stick around to the end of the video!) A special thank you to the Major League Fishing team & all of our local volunteers!! We couldn’t have accomplished this project without you.
