ABOUT Burn Camp

The Oklahoma Firefighters Burn Camp is a summer camp provided free of charge for children from 6-16 that have suffered major burns or disfiguring injuries at any point in their lives requiring hospitalization.

Burn Camp offers a chance for child burn survivors to make new and life-long friends with other burn survivors, in a setting of love, support, and unconditional acceptance. Adult burn survivors donate their time to show these children that their scars do not limit their ability to succeed in life and to help others.

Burn Camp is held each year in August but this year’s location is a little different. Instead of having camp at Frontier Cove, it is being held at Camp Egan in Tahlequah.

Camp Egan is a professionally staffed facility that allows campers to enjoy a variety of outdoor and indoor activities. These activities include swimming, kayaking, arts and crafts, hiking, and much more! Campers also get to hang out with firefighters from across the state of Oklahoma!

Counselors at this camp consist of adult burn survivors, firefighters, nurses, burn techs, teachers, and other professionals from all walks of life. We maintain a 2:1 camper-counselor ratio. Counselors are chosen very carefully with full background checks performed. Oklahoma Firefighters Burn Camp is a 100% volunteer, non-profit organization.

If you know of a child burn survivor that would benefit from attending Burn Camp, or if you would like more information on volunteering, please call (918) 698-8812, or e-mail us at info@okffburncamp.org.

CRO Back Shops and Overtime

Heads up everyone,

I have gotten calls from members that are telling me that American Airlines manager Jay Varvera is telling them if they sign up for 8 hour OT shifts he will not call OT. Additionally they told me he stated that they would only call for  4 early or 4 over OT.  The contract book clearly states that for scheduled maintenance the first ask is for 8 hours. You can eventually get to the 4 hour ask after you exhaust the OT chart guidelines listed in the contract. The company may only ask for day off overtime which will be an 8 hour proffer. The goal of the company is to try to talk you into signing up for Overtime that will not lead to Double-time pay. My suggestion would be to continue to sign up for the days and the shifts that you are willing to work. If scheduled maintenance piles up due to mismanagement of resources then they can explain that to their bosses. There is no mandatory overtime. Do not let the bosses intimidate you.

ASSAULTS ON AIRLINE WORKERS

An effort of the Transport Workers Union of America, AssaultWontFly.com gives airline workers a space to share their experiences of harassment and assault by unruly passengers;

Union urges lawmakers to pass legislation that will protect airline workers on the job, as current systems for reporting, enforcement and transparency remain vague and abusive passengers continue to fly
