Local 514’s Digest for the week of Jul 14, 2023

President:

It was enjoyable meeting and speaking with several Democrat and Republican members of Congress this week.

Marcus Molinaro R(NY dist. 19)

And

Rick Larsen D(WA dist. 2)

Molinaro and Larsen are the lead Bi-Partisan Representatives on the FAA reauthorization bill. This bill works to level up the FAA inspection rules on foreign MRO repair Facilities compared to the USA in-house rules.  It’s a breath of fresh air to see bi-partisan work on behalf of United States citizens.

The last day of the convention was the best, in my opinion.  TWU International President John Samuelsen brought in several Congressmen to speak on the current bills that impact all TWU members. It was a rare occasion to step up to the microphone and tell them how the direction of our government is affecting them.

This Sunday, I will travel to Phoenix, Arizona, to meet with Union leaders from other TWU  stations and the IAM on contractual issues that will likely go to arbitration to get resolved.  Rumors are that the sick points decision is out, but we have not seen it yet.  When we get it, we will immediately get it out to you.

Don’t hesitate to contact your Stewards on the floor for immediate help, or contact me 24/7 at 918-636-6089 if you have any questions.

Please continue to help each other and remember its best to try and resolve our differences without the company’s involvement.

Thank you for what you do,

Dale Danker

Vice President:

The majority of the board has been in Washington, DC lobbying for three transportation bills.

    • H.R. 3935/S.1939-FAA Reauthorization

Mark Wayne Mullen met with us in person for a few minutes. We voiced our concerns about the outsourcing facilities not having the same standards as we do in the United States.

For those of you that live in District 2, we met with Andrew Garcia out of Josh Brecheen’s office. All of the members in this district, please let Mr. Brecheen’s office know how important aviation is to you and your family.

Chairman of Material Logistics Specialist:

I got back from Washington, DC Wednesday evening.  We were lobbying for the transportation bills.  It was a great experience.

I will be going to DFW to see Jason Best (Chairman of MCT) and his members next week with some officers.  I will be back Wednesday evening.

Members please make sure you’re not outside the turnstiles unless it’s break or lunch.  If you need to, make sure you let your Crew Chief or supervisor know.  We have been having too many 32J’s for people being out of their area.

Management will be re-posting the Temporary CC job for second shift in the TEO building next week. It was not posted in every area on base. It will be posted in the same area as your crew change.  If interested follow instructions on posting.  I also will be sending it out to every MLS on base through email.  If you have any questions about this position please call or text me. After the 90 days you will return to your previous bid area.

Executive Board Members at Large:

George Albano:

On Monday, I will be traveling to visit our Brother’s & Sister’s at GSW.  I should return on Wednesday.

This past week I attended the COPE convention in Washington DC with the other Officer’s.  Being a new Board member , I was very impressed with how the conference was put together. I met several Members from the Transit, Rail & Air Divisions.

COPE endorses candidates on the basis of their record/worker issues, NOT their party affiliation.

FAA Reauthorization Bills

We enjoyed being in DC with over 200 fellow Union members from around the United States.  All were representatives of their respective local E-Boards and FLOC members.  The goal was for groups to speak with their Senators and Representatives in their respective areas discussing the FAA Reauthorization bill to put Foreign repair stations on an even playing field with the MRO’s in the United States.   Every one we spoke with seemed receptive and willing to support the Bill and hopefully the House and Senate versions move forward to vote on  this session.

Several of us will be going to Dallas next week to see our Brothers and Sisters in GSW.  We will be handing them their AMT gifts as well as getting a tour of their facilities and operations.

Welfare and Entertainment

Tulsa Oilers Indoor Football will have their final home game of the season this Saturday night.  Officers have been throughout the base Thursday and Friday handing out tickets to their respective areas.  If you still need tickets they can be picked up at the Union Offices on Pine until 4PM Friday or the Blood Drive until 3pm today

Tulsa Drillers Baseball Tickets will only be available at the Union Offices on Pine M-F 7am-11am and 12pm-4pm

Extreme Temperatures

During these extreme temperatures please stay hydrated and cooled off.  Check on your fellow workers and help each other out.

Jay Potter:

This morning, Jul 14, 2023 We have 21 aircraft at our 4 Base Maintenance Bases and 20 at the HMP vendors.

I attended the TWU Cope Convention in Washington DC this last week from Sunday – Wednesday.  We had the pleasure of lobbying Congress on Several issues. Below are a couple examples.

    • H.R. 3935 & S.1939, FAA Reauthorization Bill – This Bill will increase the safety and security standards at foreign aircraft maintenance facilities.  This Bill has been receiving bipartisan support. Our ask is that this bill gets enacted into law before the current authorization expires on Sep 30, 2023.
    • H.R. 1674 & S. 576, The Railway Safety Act of 2023 – This Bill will establish a minimum amount of time inspectors will be allowed to inspect each car to help alleviate the increase in train derailments.

Have a great day.

Jay
