TWU Looks to Replicate Gains for all Members at Company
Late yesterday evening, TWU Local 549, which represents Dispatcher Operation Specialists at American Airlines, overwhelmingly ratified a contract that will give members immediate pay increases as well as improved longevity pay, increased vacation, sick days, and holidays. Over 85 percent of members voted in favor of the contract. This afternoon, the new agreement was signed by TWU International, Local 549 leadership, and American Airlines.
“This is another step in the combining of two experienced, professional, and dedicated workgroups at the new American Airlines” said TWU International Vice President Gary Shults. “This contract brings their wages and benefits up to industry standards, and we expect American Airlines to keep this commitment in the other negotiations with TWU and Joint Association members. There is no reason for American, the world’s largest airline, to expect their dedicated employees to accept anything less.”
The five-year contract is specific to this workgroup, the 12th to ratify a new agreement under the newly merged American Airlines and U.S. Airways.
