It was a time for celebration and recognitions for union members from Eastern Oklahoma on April 4, 2017. The United Way and State AFL-CIO paid honor to union members that have volunteered their time and talents to support their fellow co-workers, their community, and their families. Local 514 is proud to have eight members that were recipients of these awards and were recognized for their achievements in continues education, mentorship, and community service.
The George Meany Award is named after one of the founders and first president of the AFL-CIO. The purpose of the award is to recognize the recipient’s outstanding service to youth through the programs of the Boy Scouts of America. This year our fellow brother, Dennis Zumwalde, was the recipient of this rare and prestigious award. Rare because you have to be a union member to qualify for the award. Prestigious because of the amount of time and dedication you have to commit to the Boy Scout program and hold leadership positions like Cub Master, Scout Master, and Merit Badge Counselor as Dennis did.
Dennis currently works as an MCT in the Dallas Ft. Worth are. The next time you see him, thank him for a job well done.
Once again this year Local 514 was honored to have one of our members received The Jack L. Lewis Community Service Award. The award was named after a long time community service volunteer and former president of TWU Local 514. This year current shop steward, Glenn Morgan, was the recipient of this award. Glenn has been involved with the United Way for more than twelve with a focus on The United Way Poker Run. He has held several positions from presenting to organizing. Glenn also maintains a very active roll with his church. Congratulations Glenn for your service and dedication!
The 2017 Advanced Union Counselors were also recognized on this night. After six weeks of training, they are ready to serve the membership. They are:
Jeff Burnette, Teresa Ellis, Chris Gibson, Tracy Hardin, Carol Matthews, and Arllie Perry. These members have been educated on a vast array of your community service resources. Please utilize their knowledge as a quick source for simple steps or the beginning of more complex issues.
On behalf of the Community Service Committee of Local 514, I would like to congratulate all of the 2017 recipients and thank you for your willing service.
