All,
We have been notified that the Teamsters (IBT) have sent notification to the National Mediation Board (NMB) of their withdrawal of their application to represent the Mechanics of American Airlines. Since the IBT’s initial filing for a representational vote, the TWU has been working diligently in order to protect our Members from an unwarranted raid that would undoubtedly put thousands of Members jobs of the TWU in jeopardy.
The TWU has maintained that the IBT’s filing was flawed and should not be moved onto a vote by the NMB. The IBT’s decision to withdraw is a strong signal the work done by the TWU and the position we took was correct.
We regret that so much time and resources had to be committed to fighting the IBT. We will now be able to focus all of our efforts on restoring industry standard pay and working conditions to a membership that deserves that and more. We also want to thank all those TWU Members, the Locals that assisted and the I-Teams that have worked tirelessly under the stewardship of Frank McCann, the Organizing Director. We would also like to thank the AFL-CIO and the International Association of Machinists for their assistance in standing and supporting the TWU and its Members on this fight.
Fraternally,
Donald M. Videtich
