Federal Legislation can still affect us and the work that we do! We are also following a few Federal bills.
There are 2 pieces of legislation being considered in the US House- H.R. 1364 and H.R. 1461. These bills are basically an attempt to bust AFGE by placing caps on the use of official time and who can be union reps in the work place. H.R. 1364 is a government wide bill while H.R. 1461 is only at the VA. This legislation would be devastating to the thousands of Oklahomans that work for the federal government. H.R. 1364 will likely come to the floor right after recess, so any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
H.R. 1364- The Official Time Reform Act of 2017 – The bill would arbitrarily cap how much time union volunteers can spend per day on representational work, such as resolving workplace conflicts between employees and managers, or meeting with agency leaders to discuss workplace improvements.
H.R. 1461- The Veterans, Employees, and Taxpayers (VET) Protection Act of 2017 – Places severe restrictions on the VA official time and allows employees to drop their union dues at any time, destroying the agency’s ability to serve veterans.
