I believe that I was placed in this position of leadership as well as the other officers to secure a strong future for TWU Local 514.
Today I have made the decision to reduce our staffing at the Union office by two. This decision was not an easy one, although I could see that it was a necessary step in reorganizing how we operate.
We have several challenges in our near future like contract negotiations and harmonization with US Air merger. We need to prepare for these challenges.
The OPEIU has been a professional and knowledgable addition to Local 514 for nearly 50 years and we plan on continuing this. We will be going over the operation of our office duties in detail. Change is never easy. Tough decisions have to be made to build a sound foundation for our future.
As president of Local 514 I have many responsibilities. My number one job is to secure strong union representation for this membership. Since 2001 our local has been reducing in size, from over 7,000 to 4,500 members strong. The changes I have implemented today reflect that reduction.
We will be using our current phone system to help you connect to the right officer for your needs. All of your officers are very busy working to represent you. I ask that when possible make contact with them and set up an appointment.
