Apprenticeship; A Doorway to Opportunity

The Oklahoma Building and Construction Trades Council offers an apprenticeship opportunity for on-the-job training and academic instruction for those entering the workforce, with a chance to get paid while you learn. This may be a great chance for those seeking alternative to formal secondary education. For more information about the apprenticeship program and contact information log onto www.OKBCTC.org

Flexible spending accounts get an  extension and more flexibility in 2021

Thanks to the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021, signed into law at the end of 2020, team members  with any kind of flexible spending account (FSA) have more options when it comes to their remaining  funds from 2020 and how they manage their funds in 2021.

First, a closer look at FSAs

There are three types of FSAs available to you, all of which are subject to IRS regulations: 1. The health care FSA (HCFSA) is for eligible medical expenses, including copays, deductibles,  qualified out-of-pocket expenses, prescription and some over-the-counter medications, and more.

    1. The limited purpose FSA is available to those in the Core plan and covers vision and dental expenses  only.
    2. The dependent care FSA (DCFSA) is for expenses necessary for you and your spouse to work, look  for work or attend school full time.

If you elected an FSA during Annual Enrollment, your total annual contribution is made available to you  on Jan. 1 of your benefits year. Throughout the year, pretax deductions are taken from your paycheck to  cover that amount.

Now here’s a look at the updates American has made available to you based on the new legislation.

You can roll over more funds

Per past IRS guidance, the amount you could roll over from your account at the end of the year was  limited. However, under the new legislation, those maximum limits no longer apply. You can carry over all funds from 2020 into 2021 and from 2021 into 2022.*

If you had funds remaining in any of your 2020 FSAs, they have already been carried over to 2021 for  you. Funds can still be used for eligible expenses incurred in 2020 if you have claims to submit.

Here’s a look at the rollover limit updates:
