Local 514’s Digest for the week of August 11, 2023

President:

We had a conference call with the association on the arbitration answers. Unfortunately, we did not get everything we wanted out of the arbitrator and are waiting for the company to revise the attendance policy. If you are given a point and have documentation to prove it is a “bonefide illness”, file a grievance with your Union Steward and provide the  documents.

Marla Johnson and I continued to review with the officers this week. We discussed goals, concerns and duties.

We continue to work together to make this Local operate better to serve our members.

I am working with other Local President’s to start preparing for the next round of contract negotiations.

Dale Danker

Vice President:

Union Steward meetings will be held Monday, August 14th at 7:15 am, 11:45 am and 3:45 pm.
We will be going over articles 32 and 33. Please bring your contract books.

We continue to work on grievances and therefore the officers are not always in the grievance office. They meet with management to get them resolved.  If you need assistance all officer phone numbers are posted on the door and bulletin boards.
We now have a total of 1661 open grievances. Although this number is more than we would like we are moving in the right direction.

There have been a few incidents where people are being held out of service due to activity on premises and outside of work. I have linked the company Rules of Conduct policy for you to review.

Chairman of Facilities Maintenance:

Happy Friday all

The last couple of weeks I’ve attended several 32j meetings,  a couple of those meetings have resulted in terminations, I’m not sure why, but they all seem to have a common theme  and stress seems to be the culprit, whether it leads to substance abuse or someone saying something inappropriate aloud in the workplace,  it’s real hard to represent effectively these actions, the best offense is a good defense notice your signs  that your on edge and seek help.

As always feel free to contact me.

I attended the monthly meeting at headquarters regarding Workmans Comp & Benefits. One of the items discussed was the PWFA :
The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), a new law effective June 27, 2023, requires covered employers to provide reasonable accommodations to a worker’s known limitations related to pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions, unless the accommodation will cause the employer an undue hardship.
To request an accommodation, you should complete the Reasonable Accommodation and Exemption Request form online. Once submitted, the Accommodations team will review your request.

Tracy Hardin:

The part washers in the AAERO Building have been working hard to streamline their process and bring their young workforce up to speed. As they make progress, they encounter obstacles. In house safety and equipment issues can derail an operation. We want to make sure you go as you came. Talk to your crew chief, supervisor, and the safety representatives, and facility maintenance team about concerns you may have. Your fellow co-worker may thank you.

The PACT Act 2022 expanded the VA health care and benefits for thousands of veterans and their family’s. As we recognize the one year anniversary of the historic bill, we want to remind you must sign up for benefits to determine if you qualify. The deadline has been extended to August 14, 2023.

The Native American EBRG is hosting a Lunch and Learn on August 23, 2023, from 10am-11am in Hagar 6A. They will have a guest speaker from Indian Health Care and it is open at all employees.
