Updated 4/13/2012 Q: Do the company’s proposals affect employees who retired between November 29 and February 1? What will those employees’ medical benefits look like? If an employee chooses to retire now, prior to the final restructuring plan implementation, will retiree medical benefits still be there after restructuring?

Employees who retire before the unions agree to the medical benefit changes will be considered “current retirees.” Current retirees’ medical benefits will be addressed separately in the bankruptcy court process.

Q: What is the average age at which our employees are retiring?
The average retirement age for AA employees is 62.

Q: How often could my contribution increase for coverage before age 65?
We will maintain the retiree medical plan design to ensure that the company is offering access to an affordable plan, but it’s possible that your contribution could change annually based on changes to the annual costs of the benefit.

Q: What happens if I retire when I am 65, but my spouse is still under age 65? Will he/she still be eligible for medical coverage?
Yes, your spouse will still have access to American’s company-sponsored retiree medical option at full cost, like other retirees under age 65.
