Our Mechanics Need Our Support on August 24 at MIA
Transport Workers Union Locals 568 and 591 have asked APA to participate in an informational picketing event on Thursday, August 24 at MIA Airport-Terminal D from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Eastern.
More than a year past their current contract’s amendable date, TWU continues to seek a new contract, while American Airlines continues outsourcing maintenance work to foreign countries.
- Management is outsourcing 50 percent of their maintenance overhaul work overseas.
- Management is outsourcing 100 percent of their back-shop work.
- Management has slashed the number of union mechanics employed by American Airlines by 50 percent since 2001.
There’s a good chance your plane is being worked on by somebody in Hong Kong, Mexico, or South America who will never fly on one of our jets, as these foreign mechanics are not being paid enough to afford American Airlines tickets for themselves and their families.
If so many mechanics’ jobs are being diverted overseas, could our jobs be next?
We will provide additional details soon. Thanks for stepping up to support our TWU brothers and sisters!
