Prescription Coverage for Tobacco Cessation Drugs

smoking-cessationBeginning today smoking cessation prescriptions will be covered by the Core, Standard or Value medical plan options. The cost of the medication is based on which coverage option the person is enrolled in. Additionally, we will be offering the Knock Out Nicotine program. Covered employees and dependents age 18 and over can get the medications at 0$ to them by enrolling in the program.

Put on your gloves and take a jab – it’s time to Knock Out Nicotine. American’s Core, Standard and Value medical plan options now cover several prescription drugs to help you quit using tobacco. These can help you quit whether you dip or smoke. Your cost is based on your medical coverage option. Call Express Scripts at 1-800-988-4125 to find out costs and which medications are covered.

But wait – there’s more. Join the Healthmatters Knock Out Nicotine program and pay $0 for eligible tobacco cessation medications. You’ll also get a personal health coach to help you quit.

If you answered “Yes” to both of these questions, here is how you can Knock Out Nicotine:

1. Call Healthmatters 888-227-6598 and tell them you are ready to knock out nicotine
2. Start working with a health coach.
3. Visit your health care provider to get a prescription.
4. Get eligible tobacco cessation medications at your favorite network pharmacy at no cost to you.

Here are a few things, you might want to know.

You have to enroll BEFORE filling your prescription. Once enrolled you should have your discount in as little as 2 business days, but no later than 7 business days. You can check your enrollment on the Express Scripts website found on My.AA.com.

You’ll need a prescription from your healthcare provider.

Your health coach can provide over the counter nicotine replacement therapies (gum, lozenges, or patches) at no cost, if you’d rather try one of these.

Eligible prescription medications are available to you even if you don’t enroll in the program. Your cost is based on your medical benefit option – Standard, Core or Value.
