Questions/Comments from the floor..

Brother Laursen’s statement:

There is a good amount of worry about TWU members losing our sick days and maybe our entire sick bank. Any  comment ?

The current CBA spells out our sick leave in Article 34. The only way the company can take this away is if we negotiate changes to our CBA.

The company has told their non-union employees that they will lose their sick bank January 1 2015. The company can do this because they are considered “At-Will Employee’s” when not organized into a labor union.

Brother Rodriguez comments regarding the letter – David Virella files 29(d) Grievance on AA for the distribution of our Pre-funding Match:

What are you thinking?  We have an agreement in writing that if AA goes into bankruptcy we would get all of our money plus all of the company’s money invested into this pre-funding, plus the interest.  I and many others are not happy with this letter please resend this letter and make a strong stand.  We are tired of being walked on by the company and their lawyers!  We have paid dues for a long time please at least make an effort to represent us!

Read Article 41.1 that is the Pre-funding Letter. The letter states “ contingent on the successful resolution of the Section 1114 process, as soon as practicable after termination of the trust agreement” we will receive our company match of funds.

Transfers and Tool Boxes

I am one of the mechanics that have put my bid in and won a volunteer transfer to MIA. Management has told me that they will not ship my toolbox to Miami. I know that they did in the past. What changed?

This was a topic throughout much of the week. What we found was that Local management, had told HR that we no longer would ship tools boxes for “Volunteer” transfers. This was in their words due to an issue in the past where the boxes had been damaged in shipment and it cost AA to replace them. He did not want to incur that cost.

We had to remind them that we have a CBA with this being covered in Article 27 (s) 2(a):

In the event an employee transfers from one station to another, the Company will arrange for the shipping and replacement insurance for the employee’s toolbox.

Since Local management would not budge on this and gave an unrelated Article of our CBA as reference, this was elevated to our TWU-ATD representative and AA HDQ.

This was the statement from the company:

The contract language states that we will arrange for the shipping of the tool box for transfers. This was added in the 2001 negotiations by the Company and was intended to have Stores arrange for the shipping of the tool box. We should continue to have this arrangement.

and this:

The intent at the table was to have Stores ship the tool box. We realized that wherever we have AMTs we have Stores and therefore should be in a situation to have them arrange for shipping.

At a time when so much is going on with the move of the volunteers from Tulsa to Miami, we will not stand by and let violations of our CBA continue.
