Transportation Unions Applaud Re-Appointment of Hoglander to National Mediation Board WASHINGTON, DC – Edward Wytkind, President of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO, issued the following statement today in reaction to the Obama Administration’s intent to nominate Harry Hoglander as a Member of the National Mediation Board: “Transportation labor strongly supports the President’s decision to nominate Harry Hoglander to another term as a Member of the National Mediation Board (NMB). Mr. Hoglander has served with distinction by fostering productive collective bargaining and insisting that the rights of railroad and airline workers are protected. “With the struggles faced by American workers in a severely distressed economy, it gives us great hope that Mr. Hoglander will continue to serve at the NMB. He will preside over collective bargaining and union organizing cases, where the outcomes will have a dramatic impact on the futures and livelihoods of tens of thousands of workers. The NMB can now move forward to restore fairness to workers who lost confidence in the agency during eight years of the Bush NMB. “We urge the U.S. Senate to move quickly to confirm Harry Hoglander.”
