To the Membership,
We know you all understand the importance of seniority, some even say “seniority is all we have” and whether you agree with that statement or not, we are sure you want it done right. The Association leadership has made the decision to view the Javits seniority list for Title I Technical Crew Chief & Crew Chief AMT, Title II Technical Crew Chief GSE/Facilities & Crew Chief ESE/Facilities, Inspectors, Crew Chief MLS, and Crew Chief Utility Employees as stand-alone lists and future additions to these groups would be stapled to the bottom of these lists no matter their occupational seniority.
Due to the Association’s decision, Locals 567 and 514 have retained legal representation and request the Association acknowledge that the “Javits Recommendation” did not determine or direct how Premium/Basic Classification Seniority would be governed prospectively. In addition, we have formally requested that the negotiating committee revisit the relevant TA’ed Seniority provisions and correct this flawed approach regarding the higher capacity positions mentioned above.
As your elected representatives on the negotiating committee, it is imperative we do everything we can to fight for you. Locals 567 and 514 represent approximately 4,628 hard working members. As written, the Association’s TA’ed seniority article threatens a no vote on the joint collective bargaining agreement. Not only is the Association’s approach contrary to bedrock principles of seniority, it negatively impacts our membership. This seniority issue poses no threat or reason to delay in any way the continued effort to reach an agreement with American Airlines on open economic issues, e.g., scope, benefits, and vacation.
Please be aware that after the date December 27, 2016: (Javits final list)
(original letter was incorrect and had date June 15, 2017)
- If you have a higher capacity bid position and are considering leaving it.
- If you are considering bidding a higher capacity position.
Your current rights to bid shift and days off along with RIF and Recall may be negatively impacted at the time a JCBA is reached.
In Solidarity,
