We have two Short Term Disability insurances at American Airlines.
The first Short Term Disability is the Union Short Term Disability Plan named “The Standard”.
This insurance pays you while you are out of work for an illness or accident and unable to work. It pays you fifty percent of your income less your taxes. Also, “The Standard” pays an average of your overtime for the past year of work. Local 514’s Insurance Committee completes the employer portion of the application for the benefit, not the company, so it would be necessary for you to contact D’Ann Johnson or Malinda Hamm to get it completed.
The Second Short Term Disability insurance is called Metlife.
This is the Company Short Term Disability. This insurance also pays fifty percent of your income less your taxes. This form is filled out by you, your doctor, and your employer. The Local 514 Insurance Committee is always willing to help you in anyway to assure that all of the forms are complete and ready to be submitted. You can only make a claim on one Short Term Disability plan.
So if you have both, please contact your Insurance Committee to have this corrected. As always, please keep a copy of all forms for your records in a safe place.
