Special Jetwire – Payroll Support Program extended – December 22, 2020

A message from Doug Parker and Robert lsom

Team members,
As 2020 comes to a close, we can’t think of a better way to end the year than to share that Congress has passed a legislative package that includes an extension of the Payroll Support Program (PSP2). With this support, we will be recalling furloughed team members in order to reinstate pay and benefits effective Dec. 1, 2020.

We have taken steps to expedite payments to all furloughed team members. As a result, we expect all furloughed team members to receive their first PSP2 funds in their accounts on Christmas Eve. We are grateful to the extraordinary efforts of our administrative support team, including Payroll, Finance, People, Labor, Legal and IT, to be prepared to act so quickly. Their work results in putting the support Congress intended directly into the accounts of hardworking airline employees in just a few days’ time.

Bringing nearly 19,000 team members back to work is a complex process and will take time. While pay and benefits will be restored right away, people will be asked to return to the operation in phases. There is much more information on Jetnet, which will be the go-to resource for team members returning to work, and it will continue to be updated as we navigate this complicated process.

Clearly our leaders in Washington support the service American and all commercial aviation provide. As an American Airlines team member, you can take pride in the noble work you perform, not only to return customers to the skies on the other side of this pandemic, but, in the nearer term, in the critical distribution of the vaccine and other supplies needed.

Notably, the news we share today is the result of company and union leadership working arm in arm to bring PSP2 over the finish line. Each voice mattered, and it is clear to see that great things come about when we raise our voices together for the greater good. Of course, we are also grateful to the long roster of Congressional leaders and members, as well as to President Trump and members of his administration, who understood the
significance and the urgency of this relief.

May this positive close to 2020 be the light we all need during this holiday season. We are privileged to fight for this incredible team and support the work you do. Thank you, and, from the entire leadership team at American, we wish each of you and your families a happy and healthy holiday season.
