On Tuesday May 17, 2011, the Stores Negotiations Committee met with management and mediator Jack Kane. Following a Power Point Presentation that had comparisons between the various proposals and competitors for Stores, the Company then submitted counter proposals for:
Article 1 – Recognition & Scope
Article 4 – Compensation
Article 5 – Shift Differential
Article 6 – Overtime
Article 7 – Holidays
Article 8 – Vacations
Article 34 – Sick Leave
Article 40 – Pension
Article 41 – Benefits
Article 42 – Job Security
Article 47 – Duration of Agreement
These proposed articles, which AA management deemed a “Comprehensive Package”, were once again “Concessionary in Nature”. For every step that AA management made towards our proposal, they would take two steps back. AA management is still asking for new concessions they haven’t ask for in the 3&1/2 years of negotiations/mediation. The VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory) letter is an example of this. American Airlines management seems inclined to “move the furniture around” and regress instead of progress in these negotiations.
On Thursday, May 19, 2011, the Stores Negotiations Committee responded with our own “Comprehensive Package”. Changes were made in the following Articles:
Article 1 – Recognition & Scope
Article 4 – Compensation
Article 7 – Holidays
Article 47 – Duration of Agreement
All other Open Articles remained with the TWU’s current Table Position
After 8 years of concessions, there is no justifiable reason for American Airlines management to ignore the sacrifices the TWU membership has made for this Company.
The NMB has determined both parties will reconvene on the week of June 13th in Miami, Fl. We expect the Company to take a step forward towards meeting our membership’s needs when we meet again.
The Stores Negotiations Committee appreciates your patience and support as we work toward an agreement.
