Obituary of Warren Gale Varner
Warren Gale “Bunk” Varner was born in Gravette, AR to Jewel Baxter “Doc” Varner and Edna Magdaline (Tracy) Varner and passed from this life on September 25, 2024, at the age of 78.
Bunk graduated from Springdale High School and attended some college courses before entering the Air National Guard. Upon honorable discharge, he began working as a mechanic for American Airlines where he retired after 42 years as an inspection supervisor.
Bunk and Jan Simmons met in the early 1970’s at the Spanish Garden Apartments. Jan has often told the story of how one day, she glanced across the way and saw Bunk in the doorway, and said to herself, “I’m going to marry that man”. It was love at first sight, and they married on December 18, 1975.
Bunk and Jan enjoyed their retirement years traveling to Florida to see his little brother Lonnie and his family, as well as years of visiting state and national parks. He enjoyed sports cars and motorcycles, visiting with friends and family while maintaining his stubborn disposition and sharp mind during every conversation. He and Jan enjoyed working in their beautiful yard, tending to the fish in their koi ponds, and spending time with their dog Lucy.
Bunk is predeceased by his father “Doc”, his mother Edna, his brother Doyle Franklin Varner, and brother Lonnie Varner. He predeceases his brother Jim Varner and his wife Jan, the love of his life for almost 49 years.
