TWU Maintenance & Related Contract Mediation Update 4/28/11-4/29/11

On Thursday, April 28, 2011, your TWU Maintenance and Related (M&R) Negotiating Committee met with management to view and discuss a presentation describing management’s position regarding our M&R mediation status and recent public financial disclosures by American Airlines.

Contained within the presentation was a financial analysis breaking down the associated costs represented by the failed TA (Tentative Agreement), comparing it to our current table position that was proposed to management by the TWU Maintenance and Related (M&R) Negotiating Committee, and several competitors that have gone through the bankruptcy process. The presentation did not include any of our competitors whom, like AMR, have not been through the bankruptcy process. Management accepted the TWU cost-out of our table position as a viable estimate.

Along with the posted TWU Maintenance and Related (M&R) Negotiating Committee updates, you can view the complete presentation given to your TWU Maintenance and Related (M&R) Negotiating Committee by the company by going to http://aa.twu.org. and click on (April 28, 2011 AA Management Presentation) or get it here..

Summary of the AA Management Presentation:

“Although the TWU proposal makes it difficult to find a path forward, all parties need to continue to have discussions to find a solution”.

“Since there has been success closing sections of the Agreement using language from the prior TA, our intention is to continue to use this document as a basis for future proposals

While finding common solutions is important, the new Agreement must allow American to be competitive with other carriers”

“Furthermore, the economic situation is extremely difficult and is deteriorating so it is imperative that we balance this challenge along with the employee contributions and the need to have a competitive, viable company.”

Your M&R Committee responded to the presentation by stating that their estimates regarding contracting out does not consider all the benefits of performing the work in house e.g. turn times etc…

AA Management did agree to present formal counter proposals on all the open Articles at our next mediation session. We will discuss their counter proposals and they agreed that based upon those discussions they will present full text counter proposals on all open articles by the end of the week. The Mediator has designated May 9-13, 2011 in Tulsa, OK as the next scheduled dates and location for the Maintenance and Related mediated sessions.

The TWU Maintenance and Related (M&R) Negotiating Committee will post any further updates at: http://aa.twu.org.

Stay informed.

The M&R Negotiating Committee appreciates your patience and support as we work toward an agreement.
