TWU Stores Update 10-14-2011

October 14, 2011

After nearly 5 months since the last meeting between American Airlines and the TWU Stores Negotiating Committee, Contract Negotiation Mediation reconvened in Los Angeles, California on October 12th and 13th, 2011.

On Wednesday, October 12th, the Stores Negotiations Committee met with AA management and mediator Jack Kane. The Company passed the first of three Comprehensive Proposals to the Stores Committee. Once again, the proposal was regressive in nature. The Stores Committee with the help of our TWU Economist John Donnelly, found several errors in the Company’s cost-out. When confronted with the errors, the Company acknowledged the errors.

The Company would later pass the Stores Committee two more Comprehensive Proposals on Thursday, October 13th. While the Company did enhance some areas, they regressed in other areas. The Company’s actions equated to basically “Moving the furniture around”. The Stores Committee could not agree to the terms and rejected the Company’s comprehensive proposal.
Although the Company’s Comprehensive Proposal was rejected, subsequently the two parties were able to reach Tentative Agreements on 3 Articles:

• Article 3 – Hours of Work
• Article 5 – Shift Differential
• Article 36 – Meal Periods

The remaining Open Articles that your Stores Committee will formally respond to at the next mediated session include:

• Article 1 – Recognition & Scope
• Article 4 – Compensation
• Article 6 – Overtime
• Article 7 – Holidays
• Article 8 – Vacations
• Article 34 – Sick Leave
• Article 40 – Pension
• Article 41 – Benefits
• Article 42 – Job Security
• Article 47 – Duration of Agreement

To view the latest Company comprehensive proposal, the full text of their proposals and the recent Articles that were tentatively agreed to go to the negotiations website at negotiaate.twu.org.

The NMB has not yet determined the dates and location for the next round of negotiations. We will announce the details of the next session as they become available.

The Stores Negotiations Committee appreciates your patience and support as we work toward an agreement.

Fraternally,
TWU Stores Negotiating Committee
