Because of press coverage of AA/US Airways merger talks, the ATD received numerous phone calls and e mails asking why the TWU does not have a Memorandum of Understanding with AA on seniority integration as the APA and APFA apparently do.
However, unlike the flight attendants, the TWU represents 5 title groups (and several other groups beyond the traditional titles), including two in mechanic and related, and not all of these groups are utilized at the bases and line stations.
In addition, there are complex bidding rules even within the same work titles. Although we are having discussion with AA about possible integration issues at this time, we cannot negotiate productively until we know who the successor airline in the merger will be, as well as its business and operational plans.
Integration of work groups from different carriers is a highly sensitive and complex matter and we have no intention of making agreements covering such issues without full information.
